FaceTime freezes saying poor connection with my new ipad air, but works perfect with my older ipad2 in same house

FaceTime freezes saying poor connection with my new ipad air, but works perfect with my older ipad2 in same house. When I connect initially, I see the other party for a few seconds then freezes behind the error message and stays that way. The sound is ok and they can see me just fine. So I have to connect with my other ipad2 and works fine. I tried resetting the router, and sitting right next to the wireless router... Still nothing. Help...

iPad, iOS 7.0.4, Ipad air

Same problem here. Using a brand new iPad mini on iOS 8 and when i call a iPhone or iPad over wifi the screen freezes with the "Poor connection" message in the middle. If i facetime someone and they are on 3G the connection is fine. I contacted Apple support and after over an hour they still hadnt managed to solve the problem but came up with all sorts of excuses such as "the newer iPads have more pixels" and "the newer iPads are more bandwidth heavy."

I have seen on a U.S. forum that this is being attributed to a software problem but this was not mentioned when i contacted Apple support.

Exact same issues here. Def not a network problem: iPad 4 on a gigabit network. I have more bandwidth than you could possibly use, and same on the other end. This has to be a software bug just like every other piece of software that Apple currently offers. It is very frustrating to be an Apple user these days, get your stuff together! IPhone 6 is buggy as ****, the latest update was a joke.

Fix this iPad bug and stop making rdiculious excuses to people that don't work in IT and know better.

I'm having exactly the same problem, infuriating! We have noticed that the poor connection alert only happens to the person that initiated the facetime call.. if you cancel the call and the other person initiates the call.. then it is their facetime that gets the alert and loss of video. So I don't think it has anything to do with poor connections.

i purchased an iPad Air 2 last week and am experiencing the same exact problem. When I call my dad on facetime who is using an iPad Air, I get the problem of poor connection 1 minute into the call. When I cut the call and my dad calls me back, there are no problems. I experience the same problem with my sister using an iPhone5. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks

This has been happening to me ever since I updated to Yosemite on my Retina Early 2013 MBP... My iPhone 5c is also able to make FaceTime calls just fine. So it certainly has to be a software problem. Very annoying.. If anyone has figured it out, please shed some light!

The problem occurs whenever I make outgoing FaceTime calls, however incoming FaceTime calls work just fine; there are no connection issues.. I hope Apple addresses this problem soon. It seems like this has been going on even long before the Yosemite update.

I'm having exactly the same problem here. The 'poor connection' message appears consistently at the same time after establishing a call and only affects the caller. The recipient seems unaffected.

Switching back to the old iPad 2 works flawlessly. It is definitely not a connection issue as i'm running on a high bandwidth, low latency link.

II'm getting the same issue when using FaceTime on my iPad (first model with LTE) connecting with iPad mini 2. Video works for awhile, then persistently switches to poor connection. However, hanging up and redialing will reconnect with video. Except it doesn't last very long. Verified and checked all steps in above help article link. Definitely not a network connectivity issue.

FWIW, this started about 2 weeks ago for me. Perhaps a server issue? Something change in Jan 2015?

Im having the same issue with my iMac since updating to Yosemite, its driving me mad!!! I call my mother who lives abroad and I see her for a minute or so and then get a poor connection notice and the picture never resumes, although she can still see me. If we disconnect and she calls me back its absolutely fine! FIX this bug apple!! Grrrrrr

Griff, the links you posted do not relate to what the person above is experiencing.

They can make a Facetime Call, but after a certain period of time, the video drops, but audio is still clear and

the screen is just relaying a poor connection (which is not the case). I am experiencing the same thing, and cannot find a solution, only other people with the same issue. My iPhone works when calling another iPhone, but my iPad Air to an iPhone only allows me 10 seconds of video.

If anyone has a solution, please let me know.

Kind Regards
