FaceTime freezes saying poor connection with my new ipad air, but works perfect with my older ipad2 in same house

FaceTime freezes saying poor connection with my new ipad air, but works perfect with my older ipad2 in same house. When I connect initially, I see the other party for a few seconds then freezes behind the error message and stays that way. The sound is ok and they can see me just fine. So I have to connect with my other ipad2 and works fine. I tried resetting the router, and sitting right next to the wireless router... Still nothing. Help...

iPad, iOS 7.0.4, Ipad air

Faced the same issue but it's been fix now!!

Follow below's instruction:

It has been reported that changing your DNS settings fixes this issue: Settings > Wi-Fi > then select the blue arrow next to your current Wi-Fi network and then tap the “DNS” field and enter the DNS servers; 8.8.8.8 (Google’s Public DNS).

McTatt,

Same here. New iPad2 air freezes after about a minute saying poor connection, older ipad2 works fine.

The connection to the house is a solid 50M.

Could it be that the retina display requires more data, and if the upload speed at the other end is low it faults out ?

Surely the software can handle lower data rate, and display a lower res image ?

How can we highlight this issue to apple ?

Regards

James

The same issue here.

This definitely is an issue with iOS 8. I have never had this freezing issue after a few seconds when I was using iOS 7. I never wanted to update my iPad and get into any kind of trouble. But decided to try out the phone call handover feature, but now I am stuck with this issue. I use FaceTime everyday for at least an hour. i just upgraded my iPad3 couple of days ago and annoyed with this issue now. My mom used to complain the same in her iPad 2 but now I realize that she upgraded the ios long ago.

also I figured that if the calling party has iOS 7 and I receive the call it works fine. But whenever I make the call I definitely end up with "Poor connection video will resume" after a few seconds of the call.

does anybody have a solution yet?

I have just purchase a new I pad air 2 and I am experiencing the same problem , all other devices I have iPad 2, iPhone and Mac book are working fine , contacted Apple support but this was a waste of time, They asked me to completely reformat the iPad and reinstall the software as a new iPad, did this and still facing the same issues.. Apple need to read this froum and offer us a fix.. very poor service from Apple on this matter.. Expected better..

other problem is I bought the iPad in the UK and then traveled aboard for my work and will not return for 5 weeks so It will be out of direct replacement warranty, so they will have to send it away t have it repaired 😟😟😟

I currently experience this issue, exactly as described by the OP.

The problem only occurs when I use FaceTime on Mac OS X and talk with my girlfriend on an iPhone 6. I'm running the latest version of Yosemite, and she's running the latest version of iOS.

A few seconds into a call, her video feed will just freeze at the "Poor Connection" screen. I can still hear her, and she can still hear and see me. I just can't see her.

The problem isn't network related. Regardless of where I am, this problem persists. Even if I'm in a different city or state, as is she. And the problem only seems to happen when I call her (although it may happen when she calls me. I haven't been keeping rigorous track of the occurrences.) The problem does not occur when using an iPhone 6. The problem occurs when mixing iOS and Mac OS X Yosemite clients.

(I also don't see how changing DNS settings would affect this issue. Given that I'm not converting domain names to IP addresses, why would DNS be a factor? Also, why is the main fix just a canned response to go through the troubleshooting guide? The top responder clearly didn't read the actual post to see that this bug does not arise from an inability to connect. If anything, it seems to be an issue that arises with cross-platform usage.)

This is a rather frustrating bug, and it's disappointing to see that it hasn't been addressed, even slightly, within the last few months. (The original post is just over a year and half old alone.)

I have exactly the same problem.

On my ipad air, when I facetime with my parents, I can see their video for about 1min and then it disappears saying poor connection. Audio is fine. When I use my iphone on the same exact network, I can talk to my parents flawlessly. Weird.

There must be an offical way to escalate this issue. I'm sure apple would do something about it.

I think it's pretty safe to say that the issue won't be resolved any time soon. There are plenty of issues with core services like FaceTime or AirPlay Mirroring that just seem to get ignored, even when page after page of users post having identical problems.

I've rarely gotten particularly insightful support responses from the Apple boards. All responses are generally of the form:

1) I'm having the same problem, Apple please help me!!!!!

2) Take it into an Apple Store

3) File a report with Apple Support

or my personal favorite:

4) Why would you ever want to do that? If you don't like how the product works, I'm sure Apple would just love to hear how you think their product should operate. (Generally with regards to a feature or practice this is fairly ubiquitous in the rest of the non-Apple IT world.)

Anyway, with Apple products generally geared towards just "working right out of the box", you get a tremendous wave of users who can't even imagine the first thing about how their shiny iProduct could possibly work. They don't care about even the first principals that go into it. I understand that almost all end users simply want to use their products to complete a specific task. And IT is immensely complicated and difficult to get into at times. An automobile is also extremely complicated, but if you don't care to pick up even the basics, you'll find yourself on the side of the road or getting the runaround at the mechanic more often than you'd like.

Unfortunately, the very thing that makes Apple products appealing to so many people is also what makes dealing with the support discussions such a frustrating exercise in futility.

Hi I to am having the same issue on my iPad 3. It started happening on and off after installaling 8.1.4. First the image started to go pixely then the connection would drop and I would be left with a silhouette of the person I was talking to, then it would resume then drop again.

Then I would get an error message saying poor connection. I updated to iOS 9 hoping this would fix it. Not so. It's now a constant error message.

The person I chat with also has iOS 9 installed on his iPad. Could something be conflicting?

He has the new iPad as it was called. That came after mine when it was announced that the iPad 3's 4G was not compatible with the European 4G network.

I can hear him OK! But can't see him, he can see and hear me. I have also tried changing the DNS settings to 8.8.8.8, as mentioned that has made no difference either.

Until apple fix or take note of this issue I'll use Skype. They did rush out a 9.0.1 update but that did not fix the issue. Apple Please sort it!
