I think it's pretty safe to say that the issue won't be resolved any time soon. There are plenty of issues with core services like FaceTime or AirPlay Mirroring that just seem to get ignored, even when page after page of users post having identical problems.
I've rarely gotten particularly insightful support responses from the Apple boards. All responses are generally of the form:
1) I'm having the same problem, Apple please help me!!!!!
2) Take it into an Apple Store
3) File a report with Apple Support
or my personal favorite:
4) Why would you ever want to do that? If you don't like how the product works, I'm sure Apple would just love to hear how you think their product should operate. (Generally with regards to a feature or practice this is fairly ubiquitous in the rest of the non-Apple IT world.)
Anyway, with Apple products generally geared towards just "working right out of the box", you get a tremendous wave of users who can't even imagine the first thing about how their shiny iProduct could possibly work. They don't care about even the first principals that go into it. I understand that almost all end users simply want to use their products to complete a specific task. And IT is immensely complicated and difficult to get into at times. An automobile is also extremely complicated, but if you don't care to pick up even the basics, you'll find yourself on the side of the road or getting the runaround at the mechanic more often than you'd like.
Unfortunately, the very thing that makes Apple products appealing to so many people is also what makes dealing with the support discussions such a frustrating exercise in futility.
