My computer won't sync my iPhone, says its not authorized.

Recently I got a new iPhone because my old ones lock button was broken. I restored the new iPhone from my old ones backup on my computer. Now when I sync it to get all of my music back, a window pops up and tells me it can't be synchronized because this computer is not authorized to, then it tells me how to authorize it

So I do that, click authorize this computer and a window pops up saying "this computer is already authorized. Including this computer, you have authorized 5 out of your available 5 authorizations" or something

So why can't I sync my phone then? And why does it say I have authorized 5 when I've only ever used 2 different computers?

Please help

My iTunes is up to date and I have deleted the SC folder

Signed out and signed back in, no change

I recently bought an iPhone for my son, and he had an iPod touch before. When I went to sync the new phone by using the restore from the iPod touch, I got the error mentioned here - asking for authorization.

For me, the answer was to log in on my son's iCloud account (he now had one, where as before he did not) and authorize my MacBook in HIS iCloud account. Even though all the apps come from my iCloud account through the new family share feature, the fact that his phone was looking for his iCloud account authorization was holding up the sync.

Once I authorized my computer on his iCloud account, all the apps sync'd up without any problems.

Hope this helps someone.

To anyone going through the same issue: i just had the same problem after getting my iPhone 6 and i tried authorizing an deauthorizing a couple of times but that didn't work so really all you have to do is hold down and press on any app, so they all start 'wobbling' and then delete ALL your apps. There will be some apps you can't delete because they of course came with the phone.( Don't worry about those apps) Just delete the ones you can and then quit iTunes, then after that u can use you USB or Wi-fi to sync and it will work.

I had the very same problem and here is how I fixed it. Apparently, your MAC computer only recognizes only one type of media unit up to five different units. So you can have a phone, ipad, etc. I suppose this eliminates redundancy as well as provides a strong measure of security. The phone problem occurs due to previous back ups by previous phones that have downloaded your iTunes cache. As a security measure, even though your Store has authorized your computer, iTunes has not authorized your phone due to previous phone back ups remaining active. Be sure your phone has been authorized by clicking on the "Store" icon and then clicking "Authorize This Computer."

Then, do this. First plug your new phone in via USB and then: 1) Click on the iTunes icon, 2) Click on Preferences, 3) Click on "Devices" and a pop-up window will appear listing the devices that are backed-up. You should see your current phone as well as all previous phone back-ups. Delete all phone back-ups related to previous phones only, using the "Delete Backup" button. Do not delete your current phone listing. Do not delete the other media device back-ups. This procedure releases the security codes on your computer and your computer, because it has been authorized, should immediately begin to download your iTunes cache. Good luck!

This is incorrect.

This does not authorize your iPhone.

Number of backups is irrelevant

This procedure releases the security codes on your computer and your computer

It doesn't because there aren't any security codes authorizing your iPhone in iTunes on your computer.

I finally solved this problem. So annoying.

1 - I unchecked one of the artist I bought, so it's not syncing anymore on my iphone. (how to find which one? test 😟

maybe try syncing without any music purchase--> just the music you have downloaded from the web or rip from your cd)

And now I can sync again (without this artist) my iphone without having the ******* authorization problem.

So it seems it was this particular album was the problem because I have others that I bought that are on my iphone without any problem.

Note that I only ever had 1 itunes account.

2 -After, I deleted this album on my computer,

3- Re-downloaded again in itunes store.

Problem solve.

(I tried to erase the sc folder without success, and I followed iTunes repeatedly prompts to authorize computer to play iTunes Store purchases - Assistance Apple without success either).

Same issue.

New iPhone 6. Tried to sync to itunes.

iTunes box pops up "this computer is not authorized to sync to this iPhone, please authorize computer." 😠

Signed out, resigned in, authorized and deauthorized computer many times. Updated iTunes (DID NOT WORK), Updated Phone OS (DID NOT WORK)

ANSWER:

  1. Delete all the apps on the iPhone ✅ that you can (don't worry about the apps that come with the phone)
  2. Quit and reopen itunes.
  3. Press sync

Should work now.

Best of luck.

Hello--

I'm having a similar problem, in that I've deauthorized and authorized my current computer many times--but my iPhone still won't sync or even transfer purchases from the device onto the new computer. When prompted to authorize again, it's now asking me to plug in a password and Apple ID for an account I used years ago, one whose email provider no longer even exists, even if I did remember the password I made when I was 13 years old. I cannot go the route of "removing all the apps/[songs] that aren't from the current account" because that would mean erasing my entire thousands-of-songs-large library on my phone, which I naturally do not want to do.

Like mentioned above, I've tried all the solutions on the iTunes website, but it seems like for whatever reason it still wants me to authorize my computer on an account that no longer exists, just so I can listen to the songs that I've had for years. I do not want to lose my music, but I need to transfer my songs so I can also sync up new songs to the iPhone...

Too frustrating.
