I will try that now PAUL_31, Thank you all in advance for your feedback and support....
The App Store was added in 10.6.6. The only reason it would be broken, or missing from the Applications folder is that it was manually removed. Installing the 10.6.8 Combo Update will put it back.
Thank you WZZZ, but again, My app store is not functional..... It will not open
Paul's got you covered. Run the combo update. Put it on the Desktop and then run it in Safe Boot: Shift at the startup chime. Give it much longer to boot than normally.
Btw, I hope you know that if you have any older PPC apps, they won't work in 10.9. You should also check for the compatibility of other apps you have with 10.9. And you shouldn't upgrade without a backup to restore. A clone is the best.
Check here for compatibiity of non-PPC apps to 10.9
No, since you still need the App Store app to get 10.7. Delete the App Store app and try the 10.6.8 Combo Updater as suggested above.
Regards.
Hmm... Well I was optimistic with the recommendations, but NO LUCK... 😕 At this point, I am not set on 10.9 I would just like to get the app store up so I can get some needed software such as numbers etc......
I did the combo update, no luck
I started in Safe mode.... No luck
I deleted the App Store and reinstalled the Combo update,, No luck
My app store icon was in the trash, moved it out, and it is still
THERE ARE NO other signs of an App Store being reinstalled with the Combo update..
Thanks again for the feedback, any other recommendations are welcome..
Weird! I think my next step would be to re-install OS X 10.6.x afresh and then update it using the combo. Although you hopefully won't need it, ensure you have back up you can restore from if necessary. Just re-installing the OS itself shouldn't cause any problems with your data, but it's as well to have a recovery plan before you need one.
Get Pacifist : http://charlessoft.com/ (it's shareware, but you can try it out w/o registering)
Use it to open the combo update (either the dmg or the .pkg within it ), then enter 'app store.app' into the find box.
Select App Store.app which should be the only suggestion, then click 'Install' in Pacifist's toolbar & provide an admin name/pass when prompted.
That version should work as normal, although the included help files were modified later in a security update. However, that's not worth considering if you're going to use it to get Mavericks & upgrade.
Forget about the icon you moved out of the Trash. You can just remove that one from the Dock. What happens when you try to open App Store.app from /Applications?
Open Console in Utilities. What messages, if any, do you see related to this, App Store or storeagent? You can enter those in the filter field.
Thanks for the tips- need to get to work. I was thinking about the
Fresh snow leopard install, ill look into pacifist. Thank you!
Try Pacifist first. But, in any case, you don't want a fresh Snow install, meaning erase and install. If you just choose install, it give you a new base system, while keeping all your third party apps and settings, and then you need to update back to 10.6.8 from the combo and install any updates you think you need from Software Update.
Thank you all...I did not try the Pacifist, but thank you! I ended up re-installing snow leopard from the disk, then updated to the 10.6.8 combo. ......., being behind the times, I ended up having to go all the way to Mavericks.... and all my app's are working well.... However... back with new questions now.... BUT I AM back in business ! Thanks
Great - glad you got it sorted!
