When retrieving mail I get "The Identity of "mail.me.com" cannot be verified"

My mail has worked fine for years.

I recently installed Mavericks. I have a Macbook Air.

Now suddenly when it tries to get mail I get the message, "The Identity of "mail.me.com" cannot be verified"

I can tell it to ignore the certificate and go get the mail anyway, but it is a nusiance to have to do this every time.

What is wrong?

How do I stop that message and get back to normal?

You are using the wrong settings, trying to fix that by altering certificates is a bad idea'

Here are the correct settings, note that yours fail at the very first step (mail.me.com)

IMAP information for the incoming mail server

  • Server name: imap.mail.me.com
  • SSL Required: Yes
If you receive errors when using SSL, try using TLS instead.
  • Port: 993
  • Username: example@icloud.com (use your @icloud.com address from your iCloud account)
  • Password: Your iCloud password

SMTP information for the outgoing mail server

  • Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
  • SSL Required: Yes
If you receive errors when using SSL, try using TLS instead.
  • Port: 587
  • SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
  • Username: example@icloud.com (use your @icloud.com address from your iCloud account)
  • Password: Your iCloud password
