That's because the Apps that are requesting an update are ones downloaded with another Apple ID. You will not be able to update those apps without that Apple ID password.

However, you can delete the apps, and then redownload them from the App Store. Not only will that provide the newest version of the App, it also means since you've downloaded them now with your Apple ID, then your Apple ID is the one that can update them in the future.

Doesn't work if you are trying to register your iPhone to your account. Maybe you can buy things or update, but if you are trying to register this device into your list of registered devices, there seems to be no solution if your device is giving you this message:

According to our records, this serial number is associated to another Apple ID. If you have more than one Apple ID, log in to My Support Profile with that Apple ID to see your other added products. Not sure if you have another Apple ID? Find out.

This post will help with:

  1. not being able to update your apps due to foreign Apple ID password request
  2. avoid using your computer to install apps that weren't purchased under your apple ID

Yeah I know it's a year later and you've possibly figured it out but incase someone else like me into this problem here's how you fix it.First let me tell you how it happened to me:

  1. Got a new iPhone 6 and registered all my details blah blah blah the whole setup thing.
  2. Hooked my phone up to my Mac and selected apps and music, pictures etc. that I wanted to transfer
  3. Everything installed just fine except I had a friend come over and she backed up her iPhone onto my Mac so some of those apps were hers

This means that they are registered to her and Apple will identify them on any device as hers and not mine.Solution:

  1. Find the apps in App Store
  2. Attempt to upgrade them
  3. The apps that aren't yours will ask for a different user's password
  4. That's the app you need to delete; simply long press the app and hit the x on the top left on it.
  5. You can download that app again from app store under your profile

This requires your phone and could to be registered as your apple ID BEFORE re-downloading!

That's exactly what happened to my brand new iPhone which an I T guy set up for me in his shop because I'm not good at stuff like that! I later on can't update some apps because I was asked for password of someone else's I'd. I believe he installed those apps with his own apple ID. So I did what you said to delete those apps and then reinstall them and my own ID came up this time thank god! So happy! Luckily these are only free apps and cost me nothing to reinstall. Thanks soooo much. You are a life saver!
