"MSVCR80.dll Missing"

iTunes no longer starts on my PC the message is: this program cannot start "MSVCR80.dll Missing". This program has operated well for months and I have made no alterations other than attempting to install the latest update, what should I do?

And also another very strange thing:.iTunes doesn't even seem to use msvcr80.dll.
After reinstalling I can't find the file anywhere.

I've got plenty of copies, but none in the iTunes/Apple folders. Someyhing related then, like a registry setting to check for a dependency that is no longer required. Whatever the actual cause a workaround in the hand is worth two in...? Well, you know what I mean.

The prefix "msvc" in msvcr80.dll indicates it is something that programs use that were written using the MicroSoft Visual C++ compiler. msvcr80.dll is used by many, probably all, such programs. It is therefore in the Windows directory, actually in something called the WinSxS folder (see Visual C++ Libraries as Shared Side-by-Side Assemblies) in the Windows folder. So in other words, it is a system file.

msvcr80.dll is mentioned explicitly in Visual Studio 64-bit Components.

It is unlikely that msvcr80.dll is missing from any of our systems. The actual cause of this problem with iTunes is more tecnical than I am capable of understanding and I assume that no one here that is not a developer wants to understand.

In windows 7, all I had to do was right click on the download file and choose "run as administrator".

Otacon72's solution yesterday worked exactily as advertised. I have tested it pretty thoroughly, and the only hiccup that I could get it to do was itunes stopped responding when I unplugged my iphone immediatly after a sync. It only did that once, and it hasn't repeated...

Still working great.

For all of you that used Otacon72s solution and said that your libraries were intact when you reinstalled, did you have to enter in your apple ids. My issue is that we have itunes on our computer under two different accounts. One is associated with an apple id and the other account has a ton of cds added that were added to a different ipod but an apple id/account was never created. Will they still have all of there music restored too or does the music need to be backed up? And how can you backup all the music when this error won't even let you open the itunes program in general? Thanks in advance
