"MSVCR80.dll Missing"

iTunes no longer starts on my PC the message is: this program cannot start "MSVCR80.dll Missing". This program has operated well for months and I have made no alterations other than attempting to install the latest update, what should I do?

Windows 7

Hi tt2,

sorry for the strong post I did before.

I was not able to locate the Apple Application Support to remove, due to Italian W7 the name was different.

I did it again.

Now I succeded to remove all the components and manually the folders that remained after uninstall.

Then I installed again iTunes 11.1.3.

FINALLY! Now it works again.

All my files are there as well as the apps.

iTunes libraries are all alive.

Thanks a lot for the great support and for the patience.

Without your support I could not succed.

Thanks.

Thanks for your suggestion. This worked for me in Windows XP, except the system would not let me uninstall the Apple Mobile Device Support - when I tried got an error message that there was a "fatal error during installation." So I went to Adminstrative Services and disabled it. Then rebooted, downloaded iTunes, merely clicked Run and it installed perfectly and all is now well. Happily, I found this also solved the problem I've been having getting my iPhone to sync to my computer!

I can't speak for Apple, but the suggested uninstall order comes from their support documents linked to below in this revised version of my earlier advice. Some users have found one or more components would not uninstall, and one has mentioned being able to uninstall in a different order (i.e. revisiting those that had failed earlier).

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)

Remove all of these items in the following order:

  • iTunes
  • Apple Software Update
  • Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
  • Bonjour
  • Apple Application Support

Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.

The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

Please note:

Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

I've wasted so much time on trying to fix this during the little bit of free time I have during the week, but you know, I'm not even mad anymore.

I've been thinking about using an alternative option to iTunes for awhile now - especially as more options become available.

AND with the other services, it's a simple couple of clicks - I don't even need a Ph.D in computer programming (like what used to be great about Apple, for instance).

Just know this for sure - this WAS what made me decide to stop using iTunes...
