"MSVCR80.dll Missing"

iTunes no longer starts on my PC the message is: this program cannot start "MSVCR80.dll Missing". This program has operated well for months and I have made no alterations other than attempting to install the latest update, what should I do?

thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU!

This fixed it.

iTunes running completely normal again, nothing was lost.

I was really sweating it there. I've never had to uninstall iTunes or the other programs before.

I would like to note that when I tried to uninstall the Apple Mobile Device Support, it didn't appear to come off.

Nonetheless, I downloaded, reinstalled and now I can sleep better 🙂...(until the next "update", that is)

Thank you mspanner! I had the same problems as everyone after updating tonight. I uninstalled everything by Apple and reinstalled the new itunes 11.1.4. Now it's running again.

I tried to uninstall only itunes and Bonjour, but still got the same error message. After uninstalling all products by Apple, I was able to reinstall without getting the error message about msvcr80.dll

Followed mspanner's advise and it worked. I struggled to uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support - then I "repaired" Apple Mobile Device Support , which did not work, but just after I "repaired" it, I was able to uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support. Thereafter, I installed new iTunes (administrator) and it works fine again. Thanks Apple for wasting 3 hours of my time!!

Try again...

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)

Remove all of these items in the following order:

  • iTunes
  • Apple Software Update
  • Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall press on)
  • Bonjour
  • Apple Application Support

Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.

See also HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP or HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8. Some users may need to follow all the steps in the appropriate support document which includes some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

I have W7 64 Bit.

The problem started when this morning the iTunes update to 11.1.4 failed.

I copied manually MSVCR80.DLL (64 bit version) into both System32 and SysWOW64 folders.

regsvr32 of both fails too.

NOTE: I have a laptop also running W7 64 and iTunes 11.1.3 without any problem even if the above DLL is also missing into both bolders.

So I think that the error related to the MSVCR80.DLL is misleading.

Unistalled all the Apple sw:

  • iTunes
  • Apple Software Update
  • Apple Mobile Device Support
  • Bonjour
  • Apple Application Support ( I Don't have this in the Program and Feature list)

Reboot.

Downloaded iTunes 11.1.3 (the one I had before) and installed it.

Now the problem is:

Error 7 ( Windows Error 193).

Bought, downloaded and installed RegCurePro.

Run the check and fix.

Nothing changed.

I did the Uninstall/Re-Install many times this morning.

The problem still remains.

Installe the .NET Framwork 4.0 fix.

The Problem is still there!

I'm desperated!

I need to update iPad folders and App and I cannot do anything.

I need a real solution.

Something that really works.

How can it be that Apple wrote an application such as iTunes that can ealisy damaged by the terrible Windows OS?

Many thanks.
