Hi.
Without looking at the headers of the message it would be difficult to determine if it is a genuine message originating from inside Apple. This would certainly be a very good time to try spamming iTunes users with the aim of gaining access to their machines and installing something nefarious. That said the language doesn't contain the typical signs of poor phrasing often seen in attempts such as my many tax refund applications addressed to "Dear Sir or Madame".
Given that your problem has been resolved and (as far as I'm aware) the installers don't automatically generate troubleshooting logs, I suspect there is little reason to invite anyone to take over your computer now. On the other hand I would be delighted to talk with them if it might help understand this problem. Together with a couple of other users I have been generating installation logs which might provide them with useful information.
My address is steve<at>samsoft<dot>org<dot>uk - feel free to pass it back to LeeAnn Heringer or forward her email to me as you feel is appropriate.
