Itunes update failed. MSVCR80.dll is missing

I just updated Itunes on my Windows 7 desktop and now it won't open at all. Error message says Program cannot start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. Reinstall the program. I don"t want to lose all of my music. What do I do? Will Apple let me know how to fix?? Very frustrating.

Good morning,

I had a couple questions about your iTunes install problem.

1. What version of Windows are you running?

2. What version of iTunes did you upgrade from? i.e. what was the previous version of iTunes before you tried to install iTunes 11.1.4?

3. What are your UAC settings? (Windows control panels -> User Accounts -> Change User Account Control Settings. It should be a slider with 4 settings.)

Ignoring the presence or otherwise of Quicktime doesn't seem to affect the success of the reinstall process as given in this postwhich doesn't make any attempt to remove it. There seems to be a secondary error that affects some users which would seem to be Quicktime related. There is also a workaround for that in the linked post. My XP upgrade went horrible, Windows 7 went fine. I'm admin in both places with UAC turned off. As I understand it Quicktime isn't needed for iTunes per se (as it used to be) but may still be required to handle some archaic formats. It is unsurprising then that the iTunes installer doesn't actively attempt to remove it.

Yes, the Ogg format. Walk softly around the Ogg people in a wide detour and keep going...

What did you have on the XP machine as far as anti-virus? And out of curiousity, why are you telling them to copy the QTMovie dll? That makes me think they don't have an Apple version of Quicktime, but rather one of the 3rd party bundled ones where your results may vary or maybe not the latest version....

I started a discussion on this - I can't get Apple mobile divice support to uninstall. It just keeps waiting to finish and it's been hours. I'm not sure what to do. How long it it take you? I have Win 7

Press the Windows Logo Key and R at the same time. Type in services.msc and press enter. Locate the service and try to halt it. It seems from other threads that if you can't get it to uninstall and just press on with the other components that it all comes out OK in the end.

Frustrated too dcingram. Multi device family. I've spent a lot of time trying to fix on my laptop... am sure NOT going to have everyone else downloading an update after the time I spent on first device (without having any success).

And of course I won't be buying anything from Itunes until it works on this machine.
