Itunes update failed. MSVCR80.dll is missing

Just thought I would add my experience to this thread.

I had exactly the same problem with APSDaemon.Exe and MSCVR80.dll missing after a disastrous attempt to update itunes.

I tried a slightly different process to msspanner (very grateful by the way) in that I only uninstalled the apple software that was installed/modified during the update. I didn't touch Quicktime, Bonjour, Icloud etc

I then re-booted and reinstalled itunes as an admin and it worked fine. Everything is still there and it synced with my phone straight away.

Apple is starting to be like Microsoft. Instead of QA before SW is released, they let it be tested in the field. Sad...

To those who have the missing DLL problem due to the latest iTunes update for the PC, deleting all the iTunes & related SW (Bonjour, Apple Software Update, etc), restart, and then re-installing iTunes will work. Or you can wait until Apple does what it should have done in first place - test their SW and eliminate the bugs. And watch for their re-release of the update.

I had this problem too. I installed the new itunes update and when I opened itunes got the message Error 7 missing msvcr80.dll. My OS is Windows Vista. Had to go to control panel, programs and uninstall:

itunes

apple software

apple mobile

bonjour

apple application

Restart computer then install the new itunes version. It works!

Thanks to turingtest2! His procedure solved my install problem. I was not able to uninstall Apple Mobile device support. When I tried to uninstall, the progress bar would show 5 sec. left and then move backwards. After several tries of ending the service in the task manager and uninstalling , I moved on and was able to successfully install the update.

I had the same problem and solved it by changing the level of security of the "User Account Control". I simply reduce the level to the lowest (Never notify) then rebooted and re-installed iTunes. This worked for me.

Went a different route (instead of uninstall/reinstall) that worked. On Win 7, used the latest system settings restore point, which was about a week old, and it brought back the previous, working, version of iTunes. Quick and easy. Will stick with the old version until a Apple figures this out.

I have tried your fix to the installation of the latest ITunes.

I am running Vista Ultimate and am logged on as a user with Administrator status and have 'Run as Admiistrator' the iTunesSetup.exe file. However it consistenttly stalls with the error "Service 'Apple Mobile Device' failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient priviledges to start the system services". If I run 'Services' from the task manager the 'Apple Mobile Device' service will not start-" Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion"

Any ideas?

Try repairing AMDS from the programs and features control panel. Failing that, work through HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 - you may have to tear it all out again and start over.

I'm having the same problem too. After spending all afternoon trying to resolve this I will follow what everyone else on here is doing to correct the problem.

I did a live chat with apple support this afternoon to resolve issue and was told to download Microsoft NET framework 3.5 and 4. Needless to say this didn't work!

Anyone know if I needed to download Microsoft NET framework 3.5 and 4 for iTunes to work.

I don't believe so. If iTunes needs any components from that I'm sure it can install them independently. It is a standalone Windows installer with no prerequisites.

Whenever you have a problem with itunes always delete 100% of apple items in the uninstall folder and then restart and then reinstall itunes. There are usually 4-6 items in that folder to delete.
