Itunes update failed. MSVCR80.dll is missing

I just updated Itunes on my Windows 7 desktop and now it won't open at all. Error message says Program cannot start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. Reinstall the program. I don"t want to lose all of my music. What do I do? Will Apple let me know how to fix?? Very frustrating.

The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

The error would appear to be some kind of clash between the current installer and previously installed components that, apparently randomly, affects some users but not others. Once the older components have been removed as described the latest version of iTunes installs properly.

I also did a system restore on both my laptops (windows 7 and windows vista) to a point on 1/23 and 1/22. Computers restroed fine, have all my files, but I did NOT update I-tunes when propted. Will wait for a fix from Apple (for a little while) before doing the complete program removal, etc. as Turingtest2 and others have suggested.

It finally worked!!! Thanks for your help.

I do have one other question regarding HD space. In my 3 previous attempts to install, uninstall, reinstall, etc..., everytime I installed it, it would take up about 1GB of HD. However, when I successfully uninstalled and reinstalled, no HD space was freed up. Any ideas how I can find these files to free up some HD? Thanks again for your guidance as I was so lost without it.

This didn't work for me, gave a message that the task was running even though services gave the option to 'Start'.

Workaround I found was to open Task Manger and 'End Process' on the apsdaemon.exe file.

After stopping this, was uble to uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support.

I saw comments that this is one bug and that we should all just move on. In the past three months I've had various iOS updates delete all of my data from my iPhone 7 separate times. Had to troll through these forums to find work arounds. I've been told by years by fanboys that Apple products are so much more reliable than MS. That has definitely been my experience to date.

This will be my last apple product. Such a poor experience and no conern or visible attempts to iron out all bugs prior to release.

It's a Duh, I'm afraid. Killed security (eset), control panel, programs, ADM, repair. Service is running, set to automatic.

Thanks for your patience. This gets *so* frustrating - life drains away thru one's fingers. Looks as tho as much is back to as close to normal as it ever needs to be - until I trash this faithful old beast and buy a quiet little macmini with ssd. Sleep, perchance not to dream :O)

Hope things resolve themselves satisfactorily for you guys in the end. Cheers.
