This worked for me yesterday.

Earlier iTunes (and supporting applications) need to be completely uninstalled before you can install the new version. Here's the complete Apple info on this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923

Mobile device application will most likely fail to uninstall, so you would need to visit its location(s) and manually delete the files then folder(s). The location of the folders is documented in this link from Apple.

HELP! I am trying to uninstall on my Windows 7 laptop. I follwed the directions and uninstalled in order what it said to. Then it said to check your program files. I still had an Apple folder so it said to delete it. I am trying to but getting the following error: This action can't be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program. Close the folder or file and try again. Apple Date Created 1/8/2011

Now what?

Hi sashamgc.

Open the Apple folder. Inside, there should be a folder for Mobile Device (something). Open that folder, and delete the contents of it (or move them, if you can't delete them). After you have done this, delete the folder Mobile Device. If you delete in that way, it shouldn't give you an error. The Mobile Device folder is where the problem lies. You should not need to delete anything else (the whole Apple folder). After that, Apple's instructions are to empty Recycle Bin and restart the computer before installing the new version.

Regards.
