TT2,
Eight was my lucky number! Uninstalled in the recommended sequence, deleted everything Apple in Program files and Common files. Checked remnants in Task Manager Processes, then reinstalled. Works great now!
Thanks for your help!

Congratulations on your persistence. 🙂

tt2 - can you tell me how I can check if I need to install iTunes 64 bit or 32 bit? Sorry, been green with this techie stuff.
Thanks
Is my PC running the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows?
The iTunes download page should offer the correct version.

Thank you, got it. Now got to unnstall and install iTunes process. Fingers crossed.
Sorted.
Many thanks.
I have carried out the uninstall and install of iTunes as you have outlined. iTunes seems to be working (hurrah - Many thanks tt2) but I got a new error message when I restarted my laptop.
'ApplesyncNotifier.exe - CoreFoundation.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the programme to fix the problem'.
Not sure which area this comes from so grateful for your help / advice.
CoreFoundation.dll is found in:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support (32 bit Windows) or
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support (64 bit Windows)
Try repairing Apple Application Support in the Programs and Features control panel.

TT2 - my hero. I did exactly as you advised by repairing the Apple Application Support and restarted my laptop! Bingo, no error message!
You are a STAR! Many many thanks.
You're welcome. 🙂

Not sure how you know what you do turingtest2 but thanks for saving my sanity - had the same MSV missing error and iTunes wouldn't start. Followed your instructions and it's now sorted (and I'm a PC Luddite :-) - many thanks

Dear tt2 and all the rest of you guys,
I think tt2 is the most loved person in cyber right now!
I totally agree ... without you it would have been hours and hours of work.
And I lost nothing, on the contrary I discovered also that my shared calendars did work again after having LOTS of problems after the previous iTunes update!
THANKS

Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
You have to uninstall in order
Even if the apple mobile device does not seem to remove ignore it and move on thru list
once everything is uninstalled restart computer
then go download and install again...
This works for most.
I a windows 7 home premium user aware of the issues chose to just make sure itunes was closed, went in to the start button and search field typed in services, waited for it to open clicked services, located the apple mobile device support, clicked stop service then went and downloaded itunes, skipping all the uninstall steps and it worked wonderful!
Good luck!
