If the battery was completely drained it may take a little while before the iPhone responds. Plug it into the charger that came with it and plug that into a known good wall outlet. Wait one hour. Then reset your phone. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart.
If the phone restarts continue to charge the phone until it is at 100%.
If it will not restart Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.
So the battery turning itself off afer discharge made sense to me. Heating the battery also made sense. I took a thin towel. heated it in the microwave for a minute. Wrap the iPhone with the charger plugged into it in the towel and sure enough 15 minutes later the phone turned on. I had been working on this for two weeks. This worked brilliantly.
I Posted this a couple down but thought I should here as well. The battery turning itself off made sense to me as did the heat. I took a thin towel and heated it in the microwave for a minute then wrapped the towel around the iPhone with the charger plugged into it. 15 minutes later or so, bingo! Phone is charging as I type. Thanks kkrishna1. Next time try the towel trick.
My friend had this very problem After almost 3 hours of trying to fix it I borrowed my brothers iPhone 4s charging cable and much to my amazement the battery logo came on with a red line. After a few minutes the phone started up. Now the weird part, once it got to 6% charged I decided to test the original charging cable and it worked fine. No idea why this worked, but it did the job.
Thank you very much, this was very helpful for my iPhone 5s. The apple logo didn't show up but the battery indicator with red did. I unplugged the power cable and it responded by showing a picture of the iPhone power cable wanting to be plugged in.
Nothing worked for me either. I had to get a new phone. I did get everything back because I had I cloud back up. If you backed up with I Cloud you will get everything back on your new phone. Not the ideal situation to have to buy a new phone but the cost of the repair was not for me. It was time to upgrade anyway.
You can try using a different charger. I know that the off brand iPhone chargers may not work, so try using an iPhone charger. If that is not the problem try to find any physical damage around the charging port and if you do, take your phone to a local apple store. If it isn't any of these your battery might be exhausted and might not work correctly, you should also go to an Apple store if you have this problem.
Hi everyone,
I'm afraid I've tried every tip on here and am still experiencing the same problem. Some weeks ago I plugged my iPhone 5s in to charge and saw the red battery flash up. When I came back two hours later my phone wouldn't turn on. I unplugged it, changed the charger (both originals) and after waiting for an hour it returned to life.
Now I've got the same problem again, only this time nothing will help. I left it on to "charge" all night, but to no avail. Is changing the battery a solution? That's what my local tech store said, however I'm scared of using my data if I do this.
Apart from that: is there any way to save or retrieve the data from my "dead" phone? I've got six months worth of travel photos on my phone which I'd hate to lose.
Please help! Thanks!
Hold down the Volume Down button and the home button until the Apple Sign Appears. Give it minutes to turn on and don't touch anything until it does. This worked for my 5c that wouldn't turn on after I turned it off.
Namaste
OMG ! Thank you so much.. I was about to locate Apple support and show my iphone 5s.

Well, my home button is broken, it's not even reacting. I was using assistive touch while my iphone 5s was on. Now that it has turned off, what do I do since I can't press home button with lock button together?
I have the same problem, after turning it off (to sleep) it would shut down for a few hours, usually around three but it recently went up to five. I had this phone for over a year and had frequent occurrences with this problem.
Have you tried resetting your iPhone?
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds).
No data will be lost.
Thank you so much for sharing this fixed my problem! 🙂
1000 thanks.
Phone was black this am. was able to reset with your advise here and it worked. Thanks.
