If the battery was completely drained it may take a little while before the iPhone responds. Plug it into the charger that came with it and plug that into a known good wall outlet. Wait one hour. Then reset your phone. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart.

If the phone restarts continue to charge the phone until it is at 100%.

If it will not restart Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

So the battery turning itself off afer discharge made sense to me. Heating the battery also made sense. I took a thin towel. heated it in the microwave for a minute. Wrap the iPhone with the charger plugged into it in the towel and sure enough 15 minutes later the phone turned on. I had been working on this for two weeks. This worked brilliantly.

I Posted this a couple down but thought I should here as well. The battery turning itself off made sense to me as did the heat. I took a thin towel and heated it in the microwave for a minute then wrapped the towel around the iPhone with the charger plugged into it. 15 minutes later or so, bingo! Phone is charging as I type. Thanks kkrishna1. Next time try the towel trick.

My friend had this very problem After almost 3 hours of trying to fix it I borrowed my brothers iPhone 4s charging cable and much to my amazement the battery logo came on with a red line. After a few minutes the phone started up. Now the weird part, once it got to 6% charged I decided to test the original charging cable and it worked fine. No idea why this worked, but it did the job.

You can try using a different charger. I know that the off brand iPhone chargers may not work, so try using an iPhone charger. If that is not the problem try to find any physical damage around the charging port and if you do, take your phone to a local apple store. If it isn't any of these your battery might be exhausted and might not work correctly, you should also go to an Apple store if you have this problem.

Hi everyone,
I'm afraid I've tried every tip on here and am still experiencing the same problem. Some weeks ago I plugged my iPhone 5s in to charge and saw the red battery flash up. When I came back two hours later my phone wouldn't turn on. I unplugged it, changed the charger (both originals) and after waiting for an hour it returned to life.

Now I've got the same problem again, only this time nothing will help. I left it on to "charge" all night, but to no avail. Is changing the battery a solution? That's what my local tech store said, however I'm scared of using my data if I do this.

Apart from that: is there any way to save or retrieve the data from my "dead" phone? I've got six months worth of travel photos on my phone which I'd hate to lose.

Please help! Thanks!
