I am trying to install and use DB2 on my new Macbook Pro. The documentation I can find is either too confusing or in broken English---almost as confusing. I need some simple clear instructions. Anybody?

Not sure what you mean here. Performance statistics for the i5 are superior to the Core 2, at least the one I find from places like this http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/59587-35-intel-core-processor-intel-core2duo-p rocessor. I think that the i5 is greater. No?

Well, that's interesting. My inital post says I am trying to install on a new macbook pro, which is an i5, but my hardware details describe a Core2. Isn't a 2.4 duo a Core2 ?
It was conflicting information and sometimes people skim. I just got caught doing that myself in another thread.
For reference, here is the link to the IBM DB2 Express-C forum article "DB2 Express-C 10.1 Mac OS X installation guide". Worked for me on my mid-2009 MacBook Pro.
