iphone 7.0.4 calendar alert sound too short?

All of my previous dumb cheap phones have the alert sound in calendar sound continuously until I dismissed. The iphone calendar alert sound only lasted couple seconds. What if one just left the phone on the desk for a couple minute break and missed the alert completely? I had missed a few events with this apply "stoopid" design. Am I missing something simple or it's a "stoopid" design?

Well, I didn't scroll enough, so I did not realize I had access to ringtones. Thanks!

But I tested two different sounds (Opening & Classic/Piano riff), and they are longer than alert sounds but ~5 seconds, no more.

I don't find how you can set them to 30 seconds...

I understand it is a reminder.

How it should be really implemented is debatable.

Anyway, I can live with it.

Not really a big deal.

Cheers!

The ability to create, purchase, or download ringtones also exists. You can create a ringtone that lasts for ~30 seconds and there you go. You will find instructions on the internet to create them, or any number of apps in the App Store or websites that have ringtones, songs, noises, and other creative tones to use. You cannot change the length of existing tones in the phone.

I think both needs are valid. One being a traditional reminder... for which a couple of bings is good enough.

But there is what I think is a separate need to have a <insert-word-other-than-reminder-here>, which is more like an alarm. There are cases where timing is important (like an alarm waking you up), where you want the phone to keep bothering you until you act. I'm fine calling that something other than reminder. Usually I set an alarm for those events. But setting alarms more than 24 hours out is less than ideal (and basically impossible more than a week out).

So, my question is... anyone know of an app that solves this issue? That allows the user to schedule an alert that is like a phone ringing or an alarm going off? It would be nice if the reminder app had that built in, but I don't mind solving this need with a 3rd-party app.

As far as I can tell, you are only able to change the ring tone (to a longer, normal ring tone) for Upcoming Events, Invitiations, Invitee Responses, and Shared Calendar Changes. There appears to be no way to change the default notification of a Calendar event you've added yourself. I agree with the original post - if I'm going to use the Calendar to schedule important meetings, I need it to ring long enough so that I hear it. (a simple "blip" sound, even if repeated 5 minutes later doesn't cut it). Btw, Apple knows, and they don't really care.

Settings>Sounds>Calendar Alerts> there you go, choose what you wish. You also have the ability to change the sound when going into Settings>Notifications>Calendar and choose which event you want to change, either Upcoming events, Invitations, etc.

As far as what Apple knows and whether they care or not is not a fact any of us know, and determining that is speculation, and is prohibited by the TOS of the forum. So now you have the option to set a selected sound for your calendar alert.

I am sure you already understand, but for the sake of others and clarity... setting the sound on the alert plays that sound once.

What people are asking for is a second approach. One where the sound continues to play until there is a swipe or a click of an OK button. In other works, the phone nags and nags until you pay attention to it. Very useful when dealing with critically timed events.

You're correct. I already understand as I have been involved in this discussion since the beginning. The fact is that the iPhone does not provide support for a continuous alert. Feedback goes to Apple HERE. What people are asking for is nothing that we as users can change. This is a user to user support forum, and Apple does not participate here. They get their feedback from the link I provided you. Explaining it over and over again is not going to change it, the word has to go to Apple.

Well, only Apple could answer that question, and they do not participate in the forum. And we as users, cannot speculate on what Apple may or may not want to do, as it is prohibited by the TOS. I don't know about 3rd party apps, but you would need a 3rd party calendar, not just something for an alarm. Feedback as I said earlier, is the only way to let Apple know about it.

OH... hold on a sec. I think I must have grossly misunderstood something.

In reading you last response, I take that to mean that you are saying that having an alarm as part of an event (whether it be a calendar app or perhaps a to-do app) instead of a notification is against the TOS? Did I get that correctly. Is so, I was completely unaware of that and that condition certainly changes the landscape on this issue.

Thanks,

Pete

p.s. I am using the term alarm above to mean an audible notification that doesn't go away until you actively click or swipe... like an alarm clock. As opposed to a notification, which I am using to mean just a sound that plays once (regardless of how long that sound is).

lyem, the person to whom you are responding, has not posted in this thread in over a year. I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for a response.
