iphone 7.0.4 calendar alert sound too short?

All of my previous dumb cheap phones have the alert sound in calendar sound continuously until I dismissed. The iphone calendar alert sound only lasted couple seconds. What if one just left the phone on the desk for a couple minute break and missed the alert completely? I had missed a few events with this apply "stoopid" design. Am I missing something simple or it's a "stoopid" design?

I've found a solution that works perfectly for me. I downloaded a free app called "Alarmed". You can set a "Super Reminder", which allow you to set a reminder up to a year in advance. And it has a feature you can enable called "Nag Me" which will automatically repeat the alert every minute (or every hour) until you physically tap the phone to complete it! (The alert sound can be short, or a longer ringtone - you have your choice of a bunch). This is exactly what I think everyone has been wanting. It won't stop "nagging" you until you acknowledge you got the reminder, which is what the Calendar app is lacking. You can also set as many reminders as you want (I haven't found a limit yet), and customize how you'd like the actual reminders to repeat (none, every day, every 3rd day, every 4 weeks, etc). If this was in the Calendar App it would be perfect - but since it's not, I guess this free app in conjunction with the calendar app should meet almost everyone's needs.

Please, stop being annoying with these suggestions to use continous ringtone. It's been already offered as a "solution" hundred times.

Apple: i find it amazing that calendar doesn't have that option to keep nagging me just like alarm does. I absolutely need that ****, i wanted to break that useless pile of dog **** when i missed important appoitments. I had a court date 6 months in advance, I don't stick to my phone like it's the source of oxygen that i cannot live without. I can easily live it for an hour and when i come back i don't even have a clue that calendar event notification happened.

please, add a checkbox that makes a calendar event behave like an alarm from the clock app.

I know what you mean with Apple's limited alerting features.

I have been using CalenMob which has been pretty sweet. It ties in with google calendar and let's you have a simple calendar entry, an email reminder, and/or an SMS text alert. Unfortunately, google is discontinuing the SMS alert on June 26th - so no help for you here. Sunrise does the same thing CalenMob does but it is also too tied into google calendar.

I, just last night, bought the CalAlarm app. It appears to tie into the iCloud calendar which shows nice 1, 7, and 31 day calendar reviews. It has a "no notice setting" and it really does nothing but show the event on the calendar. But - it does have an alarm setting with a NAG feature that repeats the alert every minute until you acknowledge it or SNOOZE it. It does not offer an email reminder which I would like to see but the email is less critical than sound alerts.

I did some testing this AM and it seems to work as advertised.

I am quite interested to hear if people have seen with other useful APP's.

Maybe CalenMob or Sunrise or some other APP will provide an update and provide all the features I have enjoyed in the past.

Ok, so I found this thread because I had the exact opposite problem. My calendar alert would NOT stop playing for 30 seconds on events that I created. For some reason, I had 'Playtime' selected under Settings > Sounds > Calendar Alerts. For some odd reason, the sound of alerts for events I create is not in Notifications, but in Sounds.

However, this is not what you want either, because I could find no way to stop the Playtime alert from going through the full 30 seconds, which means if you get an alert while you're on the phone, you can't talk for 30 seconds because all you hear is that ringtone.

So yes, it would be nice to have a continuous ringtone for a calendar reminder... that you can actually shut off.

I have an iPhone 6 latest 8.4.1 iOS, use the "Radiate" ring tone, best I could do it seems, not too annoying but harder to miss. Yes I would like an option like the alarm clock. Took a while to get my head around all this and the terminology. For example a scheduled or manually done "do not disturb" lets through notification sounds for "alarms" but not "calendar" or "reminders" (missed something one morning...but was up anyway, whew).
