Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT

Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

Anybody else been waiting on a new motherboard?

My MBP shutoff last Wednesday and wouldn't even power back up. I sent it off on Thursday, and Apple had it Friday morning. Monday morning my repair status went to "On Hold - Part on Order". The applecare rep told me I was waiting on a new Main Logic Board. Is anybody else waiting on one of these right now? It seems like they must be on pretty short supply right now.

MBP 15.4" 2.16GHZ, 2GB RAM, 256MB VRAM, 7200 RPM 100 GB HD, Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Just wanted to pipe in here a minute. In none of those posts does it imply that the board replacement causes a reduction in the speed of the GPU. None of those posts has anything to do with the logic board replacement, and in fact, the first post you cite begins by saying, "I heard that..." thus, more speculation. I simply wanted to clarify!

Trish,

Bravo for actually reading through the threads! It does seem that there is little to no evidence to be found in any of the threads on the forums here, and in particular nothing connecting the underclocking of the GPU to the new logic boards.

The GPU underclocking rumor is a seperate issue that presumably applies to all MBPRO logic boards. You can read all about it outside the Apple Support forums on the web-at-large:

http://www.maconintel.com/news.php?article=178
http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=1693
http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/top/macbook-pro-underclocked-168172.php?mail2=true

Each of these articles seems to state the underclocking issue with varying degrees of certainty. They all seem to stem from a common source in France. Sounds like you can try it out for yourself if you have Boot Camp and XP installed.

Update on my MBPRO main logic board 'replacement'.

Not only did the Houston repair techs fail to replace my logic board, but they also damaged the ExpressCard 34 slot door as well! The metal door is slightly bent on one side, and now it will not close completely. They must have damaged it while replaced the Audio I/O board (which is adjacent to the ExpressCard slot). This really ***** as now I really don't have a choice about sending the machine in for another repair. If I don't take it right back in, they are likely to blame me for the damage and refuse to repair it as a "cosmetic flaw" or "result of abuse" or some other nonsense. If I do send it in, however, who knows how long it will be before I see my sweet 2.0ghz baby again...

Waargh!!

Anybody else been waiting on a new motherboard?
