What are the read write speeds of the new Mac Pro's storage options?

The subject line says it all.. I would hate to go for the 1TB option only to have it be slower than the 512GB.

Thanks

Dimitri

I cannot tell you the speed of the 512 GB new Mac Pro's internal storage, but I have the new Mac Pro with 1TB of internal storage and I just checked it with Blackmagic Design's Speed Test program, and I get write speeds of 980-1000 MB/sec and read speeds of 870-900 MB/sec. This is running the test with 3 GB selected as the file size. I report ranges becuase this test gives some variablity from run to run. I have seen write speeds of over 1 GB/sec and read speeds ocassionally slightly in excess of 900 MB/sec.

Apple is free to introduce improvements and change components such as RAM and Drives without changing the model number. But the components they use today will perform at least as well as the components they specify in their internal documents as "qualified" to be used in these Macs. We have no access to those specifications. Earlier components may be better (or worse) than later components, but all will be pretty fast.

The exact one you get in your Mac is completely arbitrary. There is no guarantee that they will use a specific device -- only that whatever is installed will perform at least as well as others in this class of "qualified" parts.

The guy before you or after you in the production line may get something as good, but different from yours. There is no "standard device" being shipped. The parts bin may have different qualified devices, all mixed up.

There is no formal mechanism here to indicate your displeasure with receiving a part that appears to test substantially slower than other components you have seen, and is not what you expected. Readers here are other users like you, and Apple makes no promise to read these posts, and never responds here.

I suggest you contact Apple nationally, by calling Applecare and explaining your disappointment at the substitution of what you have written here seems like an "inferior" SSD.

In addition, use the "contact us" link at the bottom of most discussions pages to send a feedback, indicating they you feel extremely disappointed and you feel you were cheated.

Remember to be upbeat and professional. Users who threaten to sue everyone can never be made happy customers, so they are ignored and/or shown the door.

I just found out new information and that is why the mac pro late 2013 I first got which had graphics card problem and pretty much acted unstable with most of the things I was doing is because it had a much updated flash drive looking around and found out that in eBay some sellers are selling the latest flash drive 1 terabyte to be exact with the new samsung flash drive stick which is compatible to our mac pro, which is based on a 2.0 PCIE 4 lane, which came out to be the reason why you and I have the same exact speed, the first machine was a most recent machine and happen to be one the one that might of came out of the factory assemble line with a graphic card problem and was with the new updated flash drive stick. the second unite must of been a much older out of the factory assemble and was in stock in the apple store, which I happen to pick up, and have a much older flash drive stick.

look at this information on this page

thank you Grant, advice taken, I will be making this phone call about the flash drive I finally found out why and doing my research it is true seems to me that the machine I have is a much older stock version that came out of the assembly line. The first machine which was acting up and having some graphic issues that one had a much newer updated version of the Flash drive and I happen to bump into a page which explain what I notice in flash drive differences..

thank you

Grant
