Mac mini shut down on its own, will not restart, grey screen, spinning wheel. Unplugged everything, will still not restart. Did safe boot, will not restart after safe boot, only grey screen with spinning wheel.

This happened a couple of months ago, unplugged everything and it restarted, now that won't work.

Safe Mode will run a Disk Repair itself, so maybe that fixed it. 🙂

PS. I never had problems with OS9 on a PM6500/128 MB of RAM, 100+ Control Panels, 200+ Extensions... took over a month straight of Conflict Catcher to get the proper load order straightened out. One big problem with OS9 was that it'd try to run with marginal/bad RAM, later versions of OSX would not run at all if bad RAM was detected.

Never had problems with 10.2.6/10.2.8, 10.3.9, 10.4.11, 10.5.8, only problems were each upgrade broke perfectly working Software. 😟

Cheri,

Glad you're up and running again; hope it contines. Looks like BDAq fixed ya right up. He's helped a lot of people; quite active and knowledgable. And good to know one can use an earlier install disc on a newer OS; though I'm suspicious about using a 10.6 on Mavericks. Can anyone chime in and help with that?

I'd look to find more stuff to trash or move because 85% is right on the edge. One thing that happens also is many of us have way too many start up (login) items; check those too.

Only reason I brought up my 'admiration' of the progression of OS's is because you said, and Cheri seemed to agree...

"...Apple changes the OS far too often without fixing the last one & introducing new problems in the new one. 10.4.11 was as olished as OSX ever got..."

I've had way fewer issues with 10.6 than with 10.4. Admittedly, we usually have to upgrade apps sometimes; but mostly they are free upgrades; and they sometimes end up being better too. TTP is one that doesn't have free upgrades. I've had no use for it since going to 10.6...and my Mac Mini in 2009.
