Random hard freezes with 10.9.1

I am experiencing random "Hard" (spinning ball, inability to force quit) freezes with my new 27" iMac. I bought the new machine in December and migrated the hard disk contents from my 3 year old 27" iMac. Over the last month the freeezes have occured at least once every week, but twice yesterday. In one instance the only application in use was Apple Mail. So far today it's been behaving. Both Thunderbolt and USB hard drives were both mounted in every instance.

Any suggestions?

Very strange.

2014-02-17 – 8:50 PM – Froze after being on all day, several minutes after removing AdobeResourceSynchronizer. Different this time. Could switch among open windows but could not do anything. Spinning wheel only appeared when MAIL was selected. Could not Force quit. Rebooted and wrote this.

Will watch and see what happens. Freezing could be primarily associated with MAIL.

Mail will not close when doing something, it prevents shutdown then (this is not normal), in that case you have to "forcequit" Mail.

That issue is there already for more than a month, maybe setting the Mail Preferences to get mail every 5 minutes or more will help, I guess Apple is working on this issue.

Why not run another Etrecheck list for us?

After updated to 10.9.2, the random freeze and hang of my rMBP mid 15 inches mid 2012 continue to randomly occur. I noticed twice that the OS hang in the middle of update session of GoogleSoftwareupdate. My Mac just hang and force me to hard reboot. So I suspect that Googlesoftwareupdate might be the cause.

Any friend here'experience the same thing as I do? Goigle make this process to badly and it cannot be uninstalled without losing functionality in Google Chrome an Google Earth to auto update itself.

May be its time for me to ditch out all Google software on my Mac and see how it work out.

Techtool does more than the OS alone provides and has been very helpful in the past. I may deinstall it but the problem, though still random, seems to occur when I ma using MAIL, Word asnd Safari. I booted up this morning and opened mail. Read the notice about Purd's post, clicked the link to open Safari, signed onto discussions to post a reply and Safari started acting erratically. Every time I clicked on the "reply" arrow, an error message appeared and the page reloaded. Aftger four tries with the same results. I clicked on the still ope MAIL window and it switched, but noting could be done in MAIL. I tried to Force quit, but the Apple menu would not drop down, Then all I got was the ever spinning ball whenever the cursor was over either the Masil of Safari window. When moved over the finder window the arrow appears but wouldn't do anything. I shut down, restarted. Opened Word to log the problem, then MAIL and Safari.... and everything is working fine now. This is more or less typical of every reoccurrence. Sometime it goes 5 days without problems. Here's my log entry from yesterday's problem:

I have now moved to my old and reliable 27" iMac. I typed the followingon the new iMan before it forze:

"This is really weird. I can still type in Safari. Word is gone (it quit when I tried to copy a portion of my log to paste in this message. When I move the cursor over the MAIL or Finder windows,it turns to the spinning ball."

At that point I move the cursor back over Mail to see the spinning ball again, then move it up to the finder menu bar, where it turned back to an arrow but couldn't do anything, then finall bac to the Safari window to finish my message, but now it was also a spinning ball over Safari, the finder, the finder Menu bar, everwhere! But the weird thing is tht I can still click and switch between MAIL and Safari windows, but that'sALL I can do!

Mailg this and running errors. I've been using Macs since 1985 and have NEVER run into anythng this screwt!
