I noticed just the other day that my casa has started to split. Very strange considering i haven't ddroped it or anything. Other people have even dropped theres before but i have never heard anyone who has had a crack in theire cover. I am going to try and explain now where the crack is.
Just under the left wrist rest where that ends on the side then you have about 1 or 2 cms of plastic. There is a line straight down. the crack is not open but it is a crack. I have also noticed that all along that border where like the top surface meets the plastic is all uneven the line goes in and out.
It happen to me too! I was so sorry an thinking that was only a problem of me, thank to make me aware that this is not the case! I hope MAc will do something, I'm leaving in Italy (Rome) any one of those who got the Mac repaired are form Rome?
all i did so far was update the software, and have kept it in a sleeve. babied it!
After researching this issue among others I noticed:
1. cracking and separation of the case from the top(keyboard) along left edge
2. same cracking on right edge and bowing of case plastic along edge above optical drive at the separation.
3. crack and separation of case from top (keyboard) below the track pad at the bottom edge where case closes and the top bows up significantly where the upper half and lower half meet.
4. On the screen case it is cracked along right and left seams.
5. Where the case meets the display the case is seperated and loose along the bottom and left edges.
I made an online appointment with the local genius bar for tonight, I will post back the results.
This is my first mac and while I am excited and like the OS alot so far, I can't put in to words how unnerving all this hardware headache has been. For the cost of this computer it should have a very sturdy case!
mine that came brand new with all of the cracks is a dual core 2 manufactured in 02/07 I know the date b/c I had issues setting up airport with my 3rd party router and had to call support for the reccomended updates.
I have had the same problem as all of the above. My Mac Book was 7 months old when it cracked. It took me three days and four phone calls to Apple. Today they have issued me with an 'exception code' and have agreed to fix my machine for free.
my macbook is developing cracks in both the wrist area and over on the side above in the weak area (which has been since the day MacBook came out, and made it feel like a cheep computer) above those two pointless screws that don't do anything. i'm printing out the pictures from flickr that people have posted and i'm taking this to Apple in a couple days, and i'm going to try to get this taken care of. if not i'll proceed to file a claim and report it to the Better Business Bureau as well. apple is not going to sell me a peice of $1800 dollar computer and then blame their manufacturing on how i handle my computer.
