Some Keys (DFGHJKL) Work Part Time

I have an early 2011 (Feb) Macbook Pro with OS X 10.6.8 and I don't believe I spilled anything on it, and it's not under warranty. I took it to Apple and they ran a diagnostics which turned up fine and they took it apart and everything was fine; they couldn't see anything physically wrong with it. DFGHJKL sometimes work; I have to press down for about 10 seconds and 1 or 2 letters will pop out. Sometimes the letters work perfectly fine (like right now).

I've noticed that quite a few people have been having this problem and was wondering if there was a reason for this that doesn't have to do with spillage or something? There can't be this many people with the same problem letters.. right?

Uh oh. I have the same intermittent problem with my late '09 MacBook. Started slowly with the "N," which frequently has to get retyped. Problem has now moved up the column to my "H," "Y", and "6." When the latter set get stuck not typing (as they did during this post), a vigorous and thorough pounding across all the keys "unsticks" them. Does that simply mean the contacts might be dirty, and the thrashing temporarily removes the problem? Then when the dirt impedes electrical contact again, I get the failure across that middle column of my keyboard? Suggestions?

Hi,

I have a MacBook Pro 2012, Retina... For about a week now, I've been experiencing the loss of my 'ASD' keys... They stopped again yesterday, after having come back to life the day before, for no apparent reason. I thought that it might be an overheating issue, but no other keys are affected, just keys in the same row as 'FGHJKL.' I just re-installed my OS and it was fine until after I install and worked on my Bootcamp partition for a bit.

Could the Bootcamp partitioning process have anything to do with it or the windows side drivers, maybe somehow tweaking the hardware bios?
