Product Key page freezes on Windows 8 installation every time!

I installed Windows 8 on my macbook air off a Windows 8 DVD. It worked just fine until I hit the product key page. At the product key page, neither my trackpad nor my keyboard works which means I am unable to insert my product key in or press "skip" for that matter. I restarted and tried again a number of times to no avail. Anybody know a fix?

hi whit. dont know if you done it yet, but i know why your mouse is not recognised, because it is optical it needs drivers which are on the disk that came with it.

if windows is already running then its fine without the disk but the windows install carries no drivers for peripherals.

can you get your hands on a very basic wired mouse say 10,12 years old? i bet money that will work.

yes, helping a friend over the weekend thats how i sussed it.

as he was doing the bootcamp install and asked for advice i told him wired mouse blah, blah, so he went straight out and bought an optical wired logitek mouse.....nothing!

so got my old wired mouse that my great grandad bought back from the crimean war 😁 dont even know the make! and that was it..... done.

turbostar's comment above is not quite correct as the win. support software has no effect during the install. the software will be installed after completion.

however he is spot on with the usb 3 instruction. if difficulty does arise when trying to install the support software then simply d/load software to usb 2. (after windows is installed)

this is so fascinating. so the mouse can still be a super old USB one from like 2001 maybe? Because i know people try this with PS/2, but as we all know, macbook airs dont have those ports lol. so ill be on the lookout for a super old usb mouse then, one that does not need optical drivers yes?

dude, if this solves it, that would be hellllllla rad. thanks for the constant help. its much appreciated.

Try a combo of moving your USB drives and how you interate thru boot camp assistant. See coolio post in the middle of first page, other 2 links discuss USB placement and USB3 issues.

yea, so i see your point here and it seems as though this method has been very helpful for lots of users, however, i am not using bootcamp to install windows. everytime i try to use bootcamp, it says my windows 8 DVD is NOT 64-bit and will not work. so i just partitioned it myself in disk utility and and then booted from that DVD and installed it into the new formatted partition, so, i did the manual way i guess? and everything worked like usual until the OS loads at the product key page, and then the keyboard and mouse just shut off. its comical. the red lazer on the mouse just turns off as soon as it hits that page. so, im gonna give it a whirl with an old mouse like tug here recomends. if you have any ideas or suggestions as to why bootcamp wont work with my DVD that could be super helpful. thanks for the help thus far!
