Removing and reinstalling iTunes

I had a MSVCR80.dll error message. Learned that i should uninstall and reinstall iTunes. I cannot get the Internet Services folder to uninstall because ShellStreams64.dll is in use. I have followed the instructions on ITunes to go into Task Mgr and close any related files. I have also closed any files that I was sure wouldn't adversely affect my computer. No luck. I finally tried reinstalling without removing this file. No luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Itunes support 'officially' tells us users to uninstall completely then reinstall, however this is a poor advice because if your files are not backed up then there is the potential of losing them completely when the root is removed from the system.

instead when you download the itunes setup .exe file, right click and say 'Run as Administrator'

this opens the file with administrator privileges and allows it to bypass the .dll missing file and install correctly. I first tried to install back on Feb 3 and got the error. now on Feb 23 I tried it this way (right click on the download and say run as administrator) and I got no issues. the install may look to be stalling or taking awhile but just leave it alone and let it do what needs to be done. My new version popped up with no errors and is currently playing with nothing missing from my files. Hope this helps!

I think you've misunderstood the advice. It is to remove only the files that are related to the iTunes application. These are stored in different places from your iTunes library and media files. The reason for doing this before reinstalling is that in some cases issues have prevented the setup files from overwriting files left behind from a previous failed install/uninstall event. If iTunes is working fine for you now then that is great, but it doesn't mean that the more thorough advice is wrong.

Tt2, I have a big problem. I synced my 30 gb ipod after successfully syncing iPhone 5s and iPad with fixed iTunes today and the iPad got wiped clean of music. Prompted me to do a reset to factory settings. Thought after I rid that i could reinstall music library. Now the iPod seems frozen, it's led screen us dimly lit, the device isn't recognized and when I unplug it the screen stays firmly lit and says "do not disconnect". ??? I can't turn it off. What can I do??
