Updated my iPhone 5s to 7.0.6 and the phone won't turn back on.

Phone won't turn on after Apple update 7.0.6. Any ideas of the problem and solution?

iPhone 5s, iOS 7.0.4, Updated to 7.0.6

Did you already try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again? You will not lose data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches.

If this does not work, try to connect in recovery mode, explained here:

iOS: Unable to update or restore

Update on my iphone 4s situation (sorry this is a bit delayed):

After leaving some negative feedback following my first visit to the Apple store, the Apple store called me back and asked me to come in again to see if they could do anything further to rectify the situation. (The first time all they told me was it wasn't fixable so I needed to get a new phone.) I went in and they did some more tests on my phone. They still couldn't fix it but this time they were able to tell me exactly what was wrong. Apparently it was the dock connector on my phone that wasn't allowing me to restore. The 7.0.6 update caused my phone to get stuck in the Apple loop, but the inablilty to restore the phone was due to the bad dock connector. I didn't understand this because I was able to sync and charge without any problem. But according to the Genius worker, the connection needed for a restore has stricter demands than the connection needed for syncing and charging. If a faulty dock connector caused the signal to be dropped for even the smallest increment of time, there would be an error and the phone would not restore. So he basically said the issue with this update simply revealed a preexisting hardware issue. I guess I can buy that, but it's still lame that you could take care of your phone so carefully for two years only to have it inexplicably crap out on you, especially when Apple products are known for their longevity (ie. more than two years). And it's still lame the update got me into this mess by forcing me to restore, when it's very possible I wouldn't have ever had to do a restore otherwise. I'm gonna try calling Apple support as one last desperate plea to get this thing replaced. If that doesn't work out, the Genius worker advised me to send my phone to iresq.com to get the dock connector replaced for about $50. IF it works, it will be a lot cheaper than having to buy a new phone. But I'd rather Apple just replace my 4s with one of the gazillions they probably use as paper weights and door stoppers at Apple headquarters.

As to why others on this thread aren't able to restore their phones, who knows, but I suppose it's possible some might have the same issue as me--especially if this faulty dock connector was an issue on a batch of iphone 4s'es.

FYI- the itunes error message I consistently got when trying to restore was "unknown error (9)".

Thanks for the info! Very we'll put together. I agree that Apple should replace your iPhone. But I don't know if that new thing Apple is doing? Not replacing iPhones iPads and iPod Touch like Apple use to.

As for the dock connector, Apple should replace anything Apple in my opinion. Apple products are not cheap! Buying third party stuff is ok but it's always a problem getting cheaper cables,docks..ect to work good with Apple. Apple added up how much money goes out for replacing idevices. Give me a break! Apple has these phones and iPads itouchs made in cheap labor!

Keep fighting and don't give up! I went through this 2 years ago with an ipad and I finally had it replaced. Called Apple and had a really nice guy help. I still have his number for anything I need. He's moved up in the company but he still helps. I hope it all works out for you. Just don't give up! Thanks again for that information. Gonna look into it.

oregonjoe,

I have a 4-month old iPhone 5S and the same thing happened to me yesterday, and like you, I also went through all the steps to restore with no success. I'm incredibly dubious about the 'dock connector' as I received the same error message at the end of failed restore attempt from both my brand new PC at work and my 1-year old iMac at home. Thankfully, my unit is still under warranty and I'll be making a trip down to the Apple store to get a replacement later today.

Thanks Papasin, yes I'm going to give them a call today. If I do end up having to get the phone fixed on my own, the Genius worker said iresq.com is licensed by Apple so it should all be genuine parts. I looked into replacing the dock connector myself, and while the part itself is cheap, I'd have to order a couple special tools to do the job, and the process seems somewhat involved. I'd rather leave it to the professionals. But here's hoping it doesn't come down to that.

Jayberaybe, that's great your phone is still under warranty. You won't have to deal with any of this headache. But just FYI, I received the same error message when trying to restore my phone through 3 different computers. Since the dock connector is a component in the iphone, if that is indeed the issue, it wouldn't matter which computer you use.

I was updating my 5s to the latest iOS. Then suddenly the phone just went blank. I thought it was the usual off and on thing it does during updating. Then now, it won't turn on. When I press the power button, what happens is that the iTunes icon goes on, with an arrow indicating that the the USB cable is to be plugged in. After plugging the phone into a computer, the computer tells me to restore the phone to factory settings. But I can't do this since everything will get erased. I am from the Philippines and recently arrived in Germany to visit family. So the computer I am gonna plug it in to is not my computer. It is the computer of my brother, which means all my data will be erased. How do I fix this.

It looks like an update error forced your phone into restore mode, like the rest of us. If that's the case, I don't know of any way to get the data back directly from your phone. You will probably have to go ahead and restore it to factory settings. (But I could be wrong. You might want a second opinion.) But did you have your phone backed up through iTunes or iCloud? If iCloud, you should be able to restore your phone to your latest backup wherever you are. If iTunes (on your computer), you'll be out of luck until you get back home.

This doesn't help your current situation, but just for future reference (for you and others), it's best not to do "over the air" iOS updates. When I had a problem similar to yours, the Apple Store Genius advised me I should always update by plugging into iTunes in the future, rather than "over the air". Of course, if "over the air" isn't advisable, I don't know why Apple offers it.

Updated my iPhone 5s to 7.0.6 and the phone won't turn back on.
