ABC iView not getting past Airport Extreme

Last year I was able to watch ABC iView on my iMac and a PC laptop (i'm in Melbourne). Some time in Nov or Dec this facility failed and iView web site would only spin and load to 52% then stop. When I bypass the Airport Extreme with a CAT5 cable from the modem to the computer the program returns and loads correctly. I purchased a new Panasonic Digital TV in Dec and the wireless (Airport) system lets me use the internet, watch SBS tv shows, BUT NOT ABC iView!

Has any one heard of this problem and have they found a solution? Apple think the router is OK, ABC don't know what they have done and Optus (Cable internet supplier) has no solutions except on their community forum. I have attempted their solutions unsuccessfully.

I have upgraded the firmware on the Airport Extreme and had it checked by Apple Store, then cleared caches from browser, but not had any improvement. My iMac is running 10.7.5 (2006 model is too old for 10.8), and is up to date as possible.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.5), 2.16 GHz, 667MHz, 2GB RAM.

I will test this if I can.. although I am on adsl not optus cable.

Tell me what model is your Extreme.

What firmware were you on and what did you upgrade to?

What modem do you have from optus cable? Is it a pure modem or a modem router?

What mode is the Extreme running in, router or bridge?

Please just do a simple test .. and copy and paste the results here. A traceroute to ABC.

Thanks for the contact.

here are the details.

Extreme model is A1354. Airport Utility 6.3.1 (631.4)

Latest firmware added by Apple Store in January 2014.

Optus Modem is ... Scientific Atlanta model "dcp2203c", just a router.

Extreme is probably running as router (not sure about this)

Hi LaPastenague,

Thanks but i'm not sure what to do next. Will look at Airport Utility (and see if I can change it). I don't know who changed the settings, except me!! Ha

OK in Airport Utility (suggested by Airport Utility help pages); Select AE from picture and Edit; Choose Network tab and change router mode from "DHCP and NAT" to "Off (Bridge mode)"; I don't have a "default host" computer as the airport is the only physical connection to the modem. Is the Optus modem a "default host"?

If I do this do I also need to change the "Internet" tab as it has a heading "Connect using: " DHCP is selected. Change to Static or PPPoE?

If I make changes will I need to reset the computer and refigure the AE, Will I need to interogate the optus router and change any thing there?

Thanks for this so far.

Rob

I wish I had an easy answer for you .. but I am actually unsure myself.

Does this modem have just one ethernet port? And does it have phone? Are you using phone over optus cable?

My suggestion would be to

1. Please open the airport utility and go to the AE, click on it and please take a screenshot and post it here.

This is how mine looks.

I need to see some detail of the setup.

2. I would suggest you plug a Mac directly into the cable modem. Power cycle the modem.. just leave it off for 1min or even 30sec.. Optus will change over client very fast.

Power back the modem.. power on the Mac.. test then if you get iview.

If you still have issues.. please make sure you are getting public IP from the modem..

Do the traceroute as you did above and post that here as well.

3. Borrow another brand of router and test with that.

You can email me direct.. but I cannot post my email here.

But it is on the home page of my websiteI can post.. weird eh??

4. If you love frustrating phone calls, ring Optus support only if number 2 above was to fail, and ask why your routing is up the creek. I suspect that will leave you with a pleasant 3-4hour hole in your day.. but you never know. Don't bother ringing them with the apple router in place.. they will simply blame the router.

What is the supplied iinet modem router?

Normally it will be adsl but they have a few strange setups for fibre or vdsl.

Is the apple router bridged? You should only have one router in the network.. do the traceroute as I pointed out above.. if you get two private ip addresses returned you will have trouble.

Finally it might simply be easier to get another brand router to use.. and bridge the AE for wireless use only.

Routing to non-apple devices without NAT-PMP and having to open ports manually is too much of a pain. IMHO!!

There is a large number of complaints about iview so it is not unusual that it has failed.

If his AE is older one.. flat.. not the new tall model.. then I recommend going back to 7.6.1 firmware, if he upgraded to 7.6.4 which has lots of port forwarding issues.

Otherwise it is some strange combo of things.. which are really too hard to sort.. a cheap standard router is like $75 (TP-Link WDR3600) and he can still use the Extreme in bridge for wireless.
