ABC iView not getting past Airport Extreme

Last year I was able to watch ABC iView on my iMac and a PC laptop (i'm in Melbourne). Some time in Nov or Dec this facility failed and iView web site would only spin and load to 52% then stop. When I bypass the Airport Extreme with a CAT5 cable from the modem to the computer the program returns and loads correctly. I purchased a new Panasonic Digital TV in Dec and the wireless (Airport) system lets me use the internet, watch SBS tv shows, BUT NOT ABC iView!

Has any one heard of this problem and have they found a solution? Apple think the router is OK, ABC don't know what they have done and Optus (Cable internet supplier) has no solutions except on their community forum. I have attempted their solutions unsuccessfully.

I have upgraded the firmware on the Airport Extreme and had it checked by Apple Store, then cleared caches from browser, but not had any improvement. My iMac is running 10.7.5 (2006 model is too old for 10.8), and is up to date as possible.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.5), 2.16 GHz, 667MHz, 2GB RAM.

Hi, back in the loop.

Friday I paid a local technician to reset the Airport extreme. He spent 1/2 hr looking at the setup then decided the AE router was OK but the Cisco DCP2203 modem was not assigning DNS addresses correctly. It will only allow me to be on a wireless internet setup (no iView, 2 computers ok) OR a direct cable link from the modem to one computer which then can see iView programs. Not both.

He suggested I get Optus to send me a new netgear wireless modem and to try that.

I still don't get the fact that this was working in Nov and then stopped.

😕

I would get another router to test.. see if you can borrow one. But it really is not too expensive to buy. I honestly doubt it is the cable modem. Ordering a new modem from Optus requires a Technician to install so it is a fairly large fee, and IMHO.. unless you are having issues with the existing modem .. I just don't think will fix it.

I don't really like the netgear modem routers.. which is what you will get. All the netgear they sell are combined modem routers. So far the router part has never seemed that great. So it is no different to replacing the Extreme for another router.

Thanks for the advice.

I managed to get Optus to send me a wireless router/modem and it works. I can now stream ABC iView as well as other free to air repeats.

They sent me a basic Netgear Router (Cable Home Network Gateway, CG3000-25TAUS) presumably the one they supply to every one now.

I set it up with the correct cables switched it on in sequence then rang them up to get it logged on to their end of the network. I had to wait about 20 min for this to connect.

Quite a simple task.

Thanks again. I still do not know why the earlier setup failed to work suddenly in November 2013.

I guess I can sell the Apple Airport online.
