If you are stuck in recovery mode from updating to iOS 8 via iTunes, try downloading FoneLab. I, too, was stuck in recovery mode until I found this! There is a free trial that you can use. Once installed, FoneLab will see you are stuck in recovery mode. It will kick you out of it. If you lost all your data, FoneLab can restore that data. Fortunately, none of my data got erased. I hope this helps anyone with this problem!

I had very similar problem with my ipad 2. If apple support or geniuses are watching, here is my complaint and new perception of apple Inc:

1- apple should not proceed with an upgrade before checking the OS of the ipad and making sure it is upgradeable. Itunes told me i can

install ios 9.0.2 and I had 4.3.x on my ipad 2. The upgrade did not complete and did not give my any progress status. it was really

created by children coders I guess.

2- My ipad was stuck in recovery mode. I could not turn it off or do anything.

3- I was able to get out of recovery mode after torture during xmas day. I am not going to say how because Apple will probably try to destroy

that process.

4- Advice, do not upgrade your ipad OS using itunes. swallow the bullet and keep using it as is.

5- Apple is worst than IBM in terms of its anal retentive proprietary software and exploitation of customers.

6- Last, Apple fix your bloody itunes and do not cause ios devices to go into a limbo state. I expect at least that you do nothing if you cant upgrade.

Mo more ios purchases from me and my household.

I am in the exact same situation. Ipad 2 on Ios 4.3 failed to upgrade to Ios 9.2.

I am able to get the ipad out of recovery mode but then it stays with the apple logo and while the FoneLab, Itunes, ifunbox detect the device, they are asking to remove the passcode which I can't do under the circumstances.

It looks like I have a bricked Ipad....

No clue what else can be done.

Follow the guide of Apple Support and update your iTunes. If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Most of problems will be solved after the steps of that. If not, or you see the Error 9 happens, You can know about this. Error 9 is the common error code on the iTunes. They usually stuck in recovery mode and can not do any other thing. You can try to update the iTunes or reinstall it. And you can google some recovery software to recover your iPad. Which I know is the FonePaw iPhone Data Recovery and the Wondershare, I used the former to recover my iPad 3, almost the same problem as you.
