my iphone 5 is stuck on a screen displaying the itunes symbol and a charging cable. I tried connecting it to itunes and it won't recognize it or anything. what can i do?

Been on the phone with Apple Tech Support for the last idunno how long and they are telling me that the only option is RECOVERY to factory settings.

Ah hello??? My entire life is on this thing for the last 360 days and now I have to lose it all? That is NOT okay with me.

Try another usb plug This worked for me and leave it for awhile, even when the ITunes logo is still showing and nothing working on phone, it worked...

I think the problem has been solved in the year and a half since that message was posted.

i think the added step of home button for 14 more seconds made the difference for me. thx, kyle

still occurring. happened to me first time ever this morning while finally deciding to update my ipad air 2 to iOS 9.

thanks this is the only thing that worked for my iphone 4s after it crashed when I tried to update it. I want to add that I had to use a different usb port on my laptop than the one I always use for it to work! So also try using a different usb port. I had made sure the itunes was the most current version (open itunes>help>check for updates) then I left itunes open on my laptop while following the directions. My phone crashes every time I try to update it; last time the verizon usb charger did not work to restore it; so I bought an apple usb charger and that worked.
