iPhone 4 bricked after 7.0.6 update, anyone else have this issue?

During the update to 7.0.6 the iPhone 4 failed to apply the update and booted up in restore mode. When restoring the iPhone fails during the hardware firmware write and displays an "unknown error" Error 12. It happens on multiple computers and versions OSX, including the latest version of Mavericks. Apple support walked through after everything I tried failed and proceded to tell me that the the phone is broken and must be sent in for repair at a cost of $149. So, unwilling to take responsibility for an update breaking a phone that was working perfectly before 7.0.6 update, that is how Apple's newest security patch bricked one of my phones. Beware with the install!

I was wondering if this was common with others or not? Have you had a similar issue, let me know?

You can't back up anything. I tried a program that is supposed to be able to get stuff off of it, and it won't do it for me. I've also tried a few programs that are supposed to kick it out of the restore loop, and nothing worked so far.

There is a lot of this happening after updates... don't you find that a bit odd. I mean they are updates sent from Apple for an Apple product and it renders quite a few phone useless afterwards.

Just saying, it might help revenue for Apple if some of their older version phones that aren't under warranty anymore are bricked and the people go out and buy a new one.

My phone was not unlocked (from that gizmodo article).

When I went to the apple store the guy said "it probably had some underlying issue.." not that he found what it was or was even inclinded to try. And great to know... thanks for the ****** update that completely killed it. He compared it to a computer problem. However, my computers have never been rendered useless pieces of garbage after an update or bad program.. If it is REALLY bad, i just have to restore it.. and guess what? IT RESTORES.

I heard about a solution for this problem

However, it did not work for me, but it might help some. The reason why this update might have bricked the phone while updating OTA is because of power that the phone needs while updating. It might not have been sufficient. Updates need a lot of power and it might help to charge your batteries first before atempting to restore via itunes.

Please let me know if this worked for you.

I restored my iPhone for the fourth time! I hate gadgets that don't work, and an Apple-gadget should work. Period.

Without Wifi on my phone I could not use my Philips lightning, I needed tot find my TV-remote again and could not text with Telegram or iMessage. (to name the most important tasks)

And suddenly after the fourth time, first activating my phone as a new device (installing my apps an hour later), and install Wifi as a new connection, it worked. And it works already three days!

My wife and I still have the battery drain problem since 7.0.6 on our iPhone 4S which did not occur with iOS7.0.4. and we tried quite some things (see below) already but they did not help in resolving this battery drain issue. It also is indicated at 'Settings' > 'Use' > 'Time since last100% battery' that Use and Stand-by time are the same.

# Normally turn of iPhone by using power button

# Remove all open apps bij pressing the Home button twice en slide all oustanding apps away and then press 'Home' + 'Power' button for 10 seconds

# We do not use Hotmail/Outlook accounts in our mail app but we did remove all existing mail accounts from our mail app restarted our iPhones and then added the mail accounts again.

# Calendar indication in the notification center is turned off (saw a tip mentioned in another topic and on Youtube.

# Brightness is set to approximately 40/50%

# We only use WIFI (at work, home and at friends/family). 3G and Bluetooth are turned off.

# We didn't on 7.0.4. and still don't use background apps (Refresh apps on background). Its completely turned off

# Privacy > Location tracking > Only Maps, Google Maps are allowed to use location tracking

# Network selection is set to 'manual' instead of the standard automatic.

# E-mail is fetched once an hour

# Siri is turned off

# I already tried to ran 'recover network settings' and 'recover all settings' but this also didn't help

# Drain battery completely to 0% and wait for 30 minutes and then charged the iPhones again but didn't help either

I hope that iOS7.1 will fix this battery drain. I hope it will be released ASAP. If someone has another solution then please let us know.

Since downloading iOS 7.0.6, our 5 and 5s iPhones have been "crazy." We have lost battery power at an alarming rate, even when not in use. Other times, the battery for the 5 iPhone gets very hot. I've done the "hard reboot" as suggested by Apple personnel and have "restored" both iPhones twice; with Apple support personnel taking over the screen and "walking" me through the process. We have had extended hours when the iPhones seem to work well then; the rapid depletion of battery power and the "warm" battery returns. The only operation that we have done to both iPhones has been to download the iOS 7.0.6. Anybody have any solutions?
