battery drain on 7.0.6

Since I upgraded to 7.0.6 my battery drains at an alarming rate. Since 8:00 this morning I have made one call and checked email - the battery is now 51% after 2 hours! This was fine before the update.

I have cloased all apps - still have exactly the same issue. Phone gets hot now when screen is on suggestiig the processor is doing a lot of work.

Is it possible to downgrade back to 7.0.4 (I was on 7.0.4 before the update)?

Not only is my battery draining like crazy, but since I upgraded to ios 7.0.6, my data usage has skyrocketed. I've tried doing the hard reset, wiped the phone and restored the backup as well as all of the usual data and battery saving tricks and nothing has fixed the problem. The only thing that works is to put it into airplane mode - not much help since it basically renders my phone useless. I've been waiting for hours to do an online chat with Apple and haven't been able to get through to my carrier due to "higher than usual call volume." This issue needs to be addressed by Apple - FAST!

Same here after updating to apples so called 7.0.6 my battery is draining super fast, I can see the percentage going down as I type this message, done everything possible, switch off location services, hard reset, even a phone restore and it did not work, ios 7.0.4 or ios 7.0.5 did not have this problem, if only I could rewind back time, I would have not updated to this stupid update. I hope so called apple will fix this problem, shame on apple. If everyone having this problem will need to off or do things to thier phones just to keep its battery going, then apple should not sale this useless device. At the long run I don't think the iphone is worth the price if every time their is an update all we feel is sadness instead of joyful ness, it so sad

I just discovered that my iPhone 5 using IOS 7.0.6, when in a poor cellular signal location (my basement) will drain down the battery WHILE IT IS CHARGING!! I started with the battery at 100% charge, left it in sleep mode and after a few hours it was down to under 70%. I've tested this phenomenon mutliple times with the same result. The charger is working properly. It's the same one I use to charge my phone upstairs.

It never did this prior to IOS 7.06. I often work in my basement with the phone on the charger. Nothing has changed except the upgrade to IOS 7.06. Something is very wrong with 7.06. It is ridiculous to ask users to turn off features to preserve battery power when the battery life was acceptable with those features enabled before IOS 7.06.

I hope Apple will stop denying the problem. It is so disrespectful of their customers and it will eventually hurt their bottom line. Honesty is the best policy. Fix it.

I just found my phone on my desk after a period of 2 plus hours of what I thought was non use while I was in a business meeting when I picked it up it burned my hand BE WARNED the heat of the phone coupled with my metal desktop had made the phone so hot I now have a burn.. Don't know what I'm going to do with the phone nor do I care just wanted to warn everyone there is a serious flaw causing this condition and this seems to be the only thing I can come up with as a possible cause.

Hi Folks,

iPhone & iPad2 battery drain issue SOLVED!!!!!

I had a serious battery drain problem on THREE devices using different iOS .... it was a simple fix and had certain characteristics that you may be able to relate to ......

Devices; 16GB iPhone 4 with IOS6

16GB iPhone 4S with iOS7.06

32G iPad2 with iOS7.04

On or about Feb. 28th all three devices started to drain the battery like crazy losing about 20%/hour on the iPhones and 10%/hour on the iPad2 .... After messing around with settings, browsing forums and looking at what was common between the three devices I concluded the problem was with a single Microsoft Outlook/Live/Hotmail email account in the iOS native mail app .... I deleted the email account on all three devices (along with other unrelated Microsoft accounts on each device) and did a hard reboot (hold HOME and top LOCK button simultaniously for about 10 seconds until the apple logo appeared).

I then re-created the common Microsoft Outlook/Live/Hotmail account on all three devices in the iOS native mail app ...... SUCCESS! Now all three devices are behaving normaly with respect to battery drain ......

Hopefully this will be useful to others in this thread ..........

In my case it looks like a hardware issue. Yesterday evening I switched off my iPhone completley with 93% battery remaining. This morning I switched it on again. After the iPhone has finished booting I was very surprised that my battery was down to 26% although the iPhone was not turned on at all. So if iOS is not running it cannot be the issue. So looks like that my hardware failed and it's just a unlucky coincendence that it failed about the time when I updated to iOS 7.0.6.

Will go to the Apple Store tonight to get a replacement.

All,

If you have phones that are older than 1 generation back (ie: older than the iPhone 5), you are going to see battery drain increasingly with each new version that comes out. That's how operating system updates work. Works the same way with the Samsung S4, etc.

I've had the iPhone since the iPhone 3 came out and I upgrade every 2 years. I've always noticed that right around my 2-year mark that the operating system has required much more hardware capacity and that my phone's hardware at 2 years old has become outdated. THUS, with my processor working doubletime in my phone, the battery will drain much faster.

If you are operating with anything older than the iPhone 5, you are going to experience significantly more battery drain with each operating system update. It's just the nature of operating systems requiring more hardware capacity because they assume that most are updating their phones regularly to handle it. Outdated phones will experience outdated problems like battery drain.

By the way, my 5s is fine now after updating apps that I most often use and giving the phone a "Hard Shut Down".

busickpg,

I suggest you read back up this thread .... the issues people are reporting with iPhone 4 & 4S are NOT minor incremental battery drain due to older hardware having to 'work harder' on a new iOS. The issues are crippling battery drain which at best is frustrating (charging thwe phone multiple times per day) and at worst turn the phone into an expensive paperweight ..... I hope you are not excusing Apple to expect everyone to refresh a $600 mobile device every 2 years! They have a responsibility to their customers to publish iOS updates which perform reasonably on all the devices stated to support the new iOS ...... fortunately in my case I found a relatively simple solution which can't be related to iOS7.06 update as it occured on two devices running older versions of the iOS but that would certainly not appear to be the case for all customers in this thread ....

I respectfully disagree. I've had iPhones for 6 years; seen numerous OS updates. In 2 or 3 of those updates over the years, battery usage did become a big issue, but one that was eventually resolved with further 'older-generation-friendly' updates.

This iOS update problem is affecting iPads too. Mine is a 3rd generation. It's 2 years old. It would be ridiculous to infer that I need to get a new iPad because Apple creates an update that results in mistakenly requiring 2.5x the amount of battery usage from my current product. Is it not reasonable for me to expect to get 5-6 years of use from a $700 computer tablet?

Consumers should be able to opt back to the last iOS update that was working for them until Apple resolves the problem. Especially since Apple's policy is generally to not acknowledge the problem until they have a fix.
