After Upgrading to 10.9.2 Isight is not working

Hi,

i just updated Mavericks to 10.9.2 on my Mac Book Pro (3.1). Now Facetime and Photo Booth is not working anymore.

Facetime is not working at all and crashes. Photo Booth tells me that isight is not connected.

The Isight is still visible in the System Monitor.

Any Ideas? It is really frustrating, beacuse i am not able to use facetime anymore.

Repeated here for anyone not following the thread you quoted:

Delete /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.cmio.VDCAssistant.plist and then restart your computer. That will stop the ReportCrashes taking up all your CPU and disk (unless you try and access isight again)

(This is where I got the idea from: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2472 - Unfortunately it doesn't fix our issue, but it does stop the hogging of the CPU and the crash reports eating up disk space)

I am having the same problem. iSight not working after updating to 10.9.2. I did initial update via system update. I am on a 2009 model iMac. So it is not just a Macbook problem.

I then downloaded the Combo updater and ran it. iSight till not working. was getting VDCA errors and ReportCrashes hogging CPU time. Deleted the VDCAssistant as someone else suggested and that stopped the logs being filled up.

Am now downloading the Full 10.9.2 Installer. Will install on an external Firewire disk and then boot off that to see if it is still not working.

Also called Apple support earlier and they have put in a ticket on it.

My 2008 Macbook Pro is exhibiting the exact same issues.

- iSight camera shows up in the hardware list, but does not work with any software that utilizes it.

- Console (CrashReporter) maxes out my CPU to 100% writing error logs for VDCAssistant crashes every second
- System temperature is through the roof averaging 99 degrees Celsius, which causes a full system crash after 15 minutes even with fans on max and a cooling fan pad underneath

- All of the above does not occur on boot, but after a program that normally would access the iSight is launched, then the endless error reporting for VDCAssistant begins and cannot be stoppped

I've tried all the remedies offered up in the forum and just now finished a reinstall of OS X from the Recovery Partition. Unfortunately, that did not work either. Unless there's a fix from Apple soon, a full wipe and reinstall will be necessary. If there were a way to stop the Console from reporting so often, or at all for the VDCA stuff, then the machine would be usable until a patch (if ever) was created.

Remedies attempted:

- SMC-Reset

- PRAM-Reset

- DiskUtility Repair Disk Permissions

- Download 10.9.2 Combo and Reinstall

- Deleted VDCAssistant.plist under System/Library/LaunchDaemons/ folder
- Reinstalled Mavericks from Recovert Partition using Command+R on boot up (did not erase system)
Chrome was the biggest trigger for me, as the Hangouts extension kept setting off the VDCAssistant crash. Had to uninstall it to keep browsing.

More info. I have same problem. Late 2008 17" MBP. Upgraded to 10.9.2 and lost Logitech 9000 Pro and iSight. They show up on USB in Systems Report, but when I launch Skype, or Photobooth, no camera available, and crashreport goes crazy.

I also have a new MacMini running 10.9.2 also, with no problems!! I even took my same logitech 9000 and plugged it in to the MacMini and it saw it and it worked on skype. So it seems that it's not that 10.9.2 lost support for some isights and external webcams, but maybe a combination of camera plus video card? No idea.

One other difference between my MBP and the MacMini is that the mini doesn't have an isight. So maybe it is support for isight that's gone and sending it in a tailspin.

I'm going to have to downgrade to 10.9.1 to get this to work I think.
