My Magic Trackpad stops working

Since a while, my magic trackpad stops working. The bluetooth menu says it is still connected (and with 44% battery life). Pressing the button on the right side of the trackpad doesn't make the device come back. From system preferences, trackpad, choosing Setup Bluetooth Trackpad does make the trackpad work again. Changing the batteries also works, but I didn't get any warnings about the batteries being empty.

In Console.app I found the following:

26-02-14 21:40:16,000 kernel[0]: [BNBTrackpadDevice][waitForData][28-37-37-2d-5c-9f] Timeout waiting for data

26-02-14 21:40:16,000 kernel[0]: [BNBTrackpadDevice::getExtendedReport][80.14] ERROR: [BNBTrackpadDevice] getReport returned error e00002d6 for reportID 0x0030

26-02-14 21:40:16,000 kernel[0]: [BNBTrackpadDevice][getBatteryState] Couldn't get battery state from device

26-02-14 21:40:19,000 kernel[0]: [BNBTrackpadDevice][waitForData][28-37-37-2d-5c-9f] Timeout waiting for data

26-02-14 21:40:19,000 kernel[0]: [BNBTrackpadDevice][updateBatteryLevel] Couldn't get battery percentage from device

but I don't know how to interpret this.

Is this a software issue, or is the trackpad just broken?

There may be multiple causes. In my case, I reviewed the many options from this thread which led me to work a way to check my blue-tooth settings and discovered that my wife's mouse was connected to my computer. I am not sure when we hooked it to my computer. In any case, I removed her mouse from my computer and all my intermittent connection problems went away. It had only recently become a problem because we moved and now share an office and my computer was now connecting multiple devices.
