Mac Pro does not wake up after sleep

Hi all,


my brand new MacPro does not wake up after going into sleep mode. I have various Thunderbolt and Firewire devices connected. My MacBook Pro, when connected to the same devices, can be woken up.

The MacPro is still running as I can tell from the fact that the connected HDDs are still active. I very much dislike having to push the power switch for 5+ seconds to shutdown the Mac just to restart it.


(Keyboard is BT, Mouse is LogiTech Unified Receiver (USB))


I'd be grateful for any suggestions.

PLEASE DO NOT DO THE FOLLOWING STEPS ON A NOTEBOOK/LAPTOP COMPUTER (MACBOOK, MACBOOK PRO, MACBOOK AIR). IT CAN BREAK THE COMPUTER'S SLEEP AND YOU WILL HAVE TO REFORMAT IT.


THE STEPS BELOW ARE FOR THE MAC PRO ONLY! (THE CYLINDRICAL BLACK COMPUTER THAT LOOKS LIKE A TRASH CAN).


DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK.


Open Terminal:


Applications > Utilities > Terminal


Copy the line below this one (in blue) and paste this into Terminal window by left-clicking your mouse and selecting paste:

sudo pmset hibernatemode 0 & sudo pmset standby 0 & sudo pmset autopoweroff 0

Press return/enter, it will ask for your password. Use the same password that you login. Press return/enter.

It should now wake from sleep normally.

Since the 10.8.2 supplemental update 2.0, Apple has changed the sleep settings on macs to comply with European Union regulations, this means that after four hours of no use the computer will completely shut down (Mac computers: Progress bar appears after waking from sleep - Apple Support).

Apparently a bug causes desktop computers like the Mac Pro to behave in the same manner.

I've been having the same problem, which just started in the past few days. At the same time, my Mac Pro started swapping position of my two screens whenever I rebooted after it wouldn't wake up. Perhaps coincidentally the same time there was an update to El Cap - that I hadn't yet loaded. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
