iOS 7.1 Zooming Wallpaper with Perspective Zoom Turned Off

So, I was thrilled to see iOS 7.1 came out this morning because I had heard it would finally bring an end to the parallax wallpaper zoom problem. So, I upgraded and reset the wallpaper on my iPad making sure perspective zoom was turned off. I was sad to see that iOS was now blowing up my wallpaper for no reason. (I.e. All my wallpapers are 2048x2048, yet it is still zooming them by almost double.) I tried move and scale to shrink it, but can't get it to snap into native resolution. Has anyone else seen this or, better yet, have a solution? It is driving me nuts that, no matter what custom wallpaper I feed it at a native resolution, I keep getting a blurry mess! Thanks.

Updated my ipad 2 last night. Setting wallpaper *****! Parallax zoom is still on! I don't mind the zooming but you still can't turn of that stupid motion wallpaper! Now I know what you guys are going through!

I'm sending my feedback! This update is good and bad! Holy cow! Tim Cook needs to step down! Thank god I didn't update my ipad mini. Thank you Apple for NOT listing to us!

Everyone needs to stop buying Apple products! But that will never happen. This will show that we don't need iPhones or iPads. Stick it to them for once! While we can't do anything with our iPhones or iPads. We should be able to downgrade! But nooooooooo, because Apple says so! I'm just so sick of Apple taking people's money and giving them ****!

You can't even express yourself in the forums because it's hear to help people. Ha. The jokes on us. Hope people open their eyes.

I'm not sure how Apple could have screwed up such a simple feature so badly. By trying to give us a feature NO ONE wanted (that stupid parallax effect), they have screwed up the most common thing ever, setting a wallpaper. Reducing motion doesn't work, turning the parallax off doesn't work. Who is running their QA department?!?! Someone send this thread to Samsung, I'm sure they'll have a commercial making fun of it by the end of the week.

As for the apps people keep recommending, that's great and all, but we shouldn't need to buy an app to perform a function the iPad has had since it was released. Being able to simply set a wallpaper how you like it shouldn't require a third party app. Apple needs to fix this, ASAP.

I've had this problem. Basically, What happened to me is when I go to set the wallpaper, it does give me the choice of Perspective zoom on or off. Once I turn it off, it lets me set my background perfectly to my desired zoom, and then I press "set".

However, when I return to the lock or home screen, it is artifically zoomed. I've noticed for me that this only seems to happen when I use custom wallpapers (like the ones I make in picstitch). If i try it with a random picture I take with my phone, the perspective zoom option works perfectly.

What I did was I simply opened my desired wallpaper in "photos" as if i was viewing it, took a screenshot (top and home buttons simutaneously), and then set the screenshot as my wallpaper as detailed above.

THIS WORKED FOR ME. I got my custom wallpaper in my desired size to show up on my home and lock screens.

Just a general reply to this thread - the Parallax wallpaper problem has been a huge pain for me as well on all my devices since iOS 7 came out.

While certain fixes work and others don't, I can generally get the picture I want to work eventually, but sometimes not without a lot of editing and trouble. I find it more difficult to get wallpapers to work the way I want on my iPad mini, since it's used more in horizontal mode than vertical like with the iPhone.

Bottom line, Apple seems to have made something that should be simple (wallpapers and scaling) much more difficult all in the name of the Parallax effect and being able to have the 3D motion on the iPhone and iPad. It works fine with their stock wallpapers of course, but for anything else there is now a lot more time and effort involved. On the iPad the zoom (even with Perspective Zoom turned off) is extremely annoying - it kind of kills the point of a nice new retina display when all of those sharp features you want to show off in a cool wallpaper photo get blurred out because of the zoom.

Hopeful that Apple will fix this, but it's been a problem for a while now. I think their position is going to wind up being that we have to deal with this in order to support the Parallax effect - which seems unlikely to go away.

I have been so annoyed by this (for wallpapers desired in landscape mode) My wallpaper effects my mood. haha the best solution I have found is to download squareready app for iphone (which is free) and then load in the photo you want. if the desired photo is not in landcape then rotate it so that it is. if the photo is already in landscape mode then pinch the photo so it fits into the smallest frame guidline. then save to camera roll (largest jpeg option). now make sure your ipad is portrait mode and select the photo in photos and set to wallpaper. then turn ipad on side to landscape mode and it should match right up. sometimes you gotta play with certain photos to make them smaller in the squareready app. happy wallpapering xo 🙂
