Now that iOS 7.1 is out I successfully upgraded my iPhone 5.
It changes the full screen pictures to a small picture in a circle. It used to be more
aesthetically pleasing, showed more information at a glance, it's totally beyond me while they would change something that looked so good.
Is there any way to restore the full screen caller images?

It depends from where you selected the picture: only pictures selected from the Camera Roll will be displayed full screen.
It may be the actual photo within your contacts. Try to use a different, larger photo.

All that you have to do is go into the contacts app and edit the picture and resize it
Confirmed! Full screen caller picture is now working again. Just re-size old photos in your contacts and it works! One thing is for sure... I will never again upgrade the ios before checking that the full screen caller id is still functional!!! Lesson learned!
Got iPhone 4S, is all abut taking new pictures and replaced, like everyone else said, update contacts but, i did it on my mac, and when it sync DIDN'T WORK, so just a heads up.
Have Anybody tested on iphone 5s with IOS 8.0.2 update, is it showing fullscreen photos.
Coz one of my friend has updated its iphone 5s to latest ios 8.0.2 update and he is not getting fullscreen image, please let me know so that if that is the case then i won't update to ios 8.0.2

Works fine for me. And, a number of people in this thread prior to your post have confirmed it as well.
