been through months of update advice, confirming, verifying disks, permissions, upgraded memory to 12 GB, 1333 Mhz DDR3, little disk space used,(under 20%)

computer still slow in finder, any window access, hours a day wasted for little wheel to finish spinning on any click.....

sad affair for MAC,

Uninstall all of your Blackberry/RIM software. Chances are that is causing issues and with RIM just about dead, I do not think you are going to find any Mavericks updates for this software.

If you are using Google Chrome and/or Drive, you need to uninstall these per instructions on Google's website.

Currently, Google apps aren't playing that well with OS X Mavericks.

If you do not like Apple Safari, as an alternative, try Mozilla Firefox, instead.

You need to update all of your other  third party software if there are OS X Mavericks updates that can be applied. You may need to, ACTUALLY, go to the third party developers' websites if there are no updates through the Mac App Store.

Update all of your Web browser Internet plugins and extensions, also.

Also, if you have any connected third party devices, like non-Apple keyboards, mice/trackpads, drawing tablets, hubs, card  readers, etc, you need to go to the device maker's website and update the drivers for these devices to OS X Mavericks compatible versions, if needed, applicable and/or available.

interesting the only reason I updated in the first place was to accomodate the BB Link software for Rim....the old BBsync worked fine on the old OS ? Think Im going back to PC anyone want to by a Imac ?

    Well,

You can try uninstalling the RIM software, first and then restart your Mac. If this doesn't solve some of slowdown issues, you could try re-installing this RIM software fresh, instead.

It won't hurt to see if this works or not.

You have third party devices that may need updated driver/software updates, like your Logitech mouse and the LCC Prefernces panel.

If any of the listed Google software installed, these still are reporting issues with Mavericks.

If still no joy, I would recommend creating a brand new user account on your Mac and running your Mac under this user account to see if things run better under a clean user account.

If your Mac runs better under a new user account, then you know there is something wrong with your regular user account that needs to be addressed.

Blackberry have made no secret of the incompatabilities with Mavericks. If you only updates for use of a Blackberry with Mavericks, then it pays to read articles such as this one here

Also This One  from last November.

You may well be better served by reinstalling your previous system from the backup you made before installing Mavericks.

OS X Mavericks: Revert to a previous OS X version

    Cheers

Failing all of this, there is the strong possibilty that your hard drive could be damaged or failing.

If you have extended AppleCare on this iMac, you can make an appointment with an Apple Store for a free diagnosis and, if needed,a replacement hard drive.

If no more AppleCare, the diagnosis is still free, but will be a charge for the hard drive replacement.

Backup all of your important data before doing any of this.

Apple is not responsible for your data and any data loss.

    Yeah Pete,

I tend to agree with you.

If the OP has a backup with the previous system on it, the OP needs to revert back to an older OS X version.

    If no backup,

The OP will need to backup important data to optical discs, USB flash drives or external hard drive, first, then do a complete hard drive erase, reformat and clean reinstall of a previous OS X version.

thanks, the only change was BB sync install that prompted Maverik update,  the slow down is across all programs, and in fact the BBsync is not even used but once week. The slow down is in between windows, in finder, and opening docs and pdfs etc. saving , basically anything that follows a mouse click.   A slight improvement when "scroll preview clicked to always) but seems to be slowing down over time.

will try BB software removal, at this point the lost productivity is not good,  ..

also, have the hd partitioned with xp, because mac wont run Qbooks, but thats only used loaded occasionally, however that works very snappy in explorer etc. ...

the partition has been long used prior to maverik... fingers still point to Maverick in from my perspective.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.

Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select

    View Show Log List

    from the menu bar.

Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).

When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.

Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
