Touch ID is broken after update to iOS 7.1

I just updated to iOS 7.1 on my iPhone 5s and now my Touch ID is not recognizing that I am placing my finger on the sensor on lock screen. Is anyone else experiencing this also? I knew I shouldn't have upgraded so quickly. Thanks. 😟

Hi, having the same problem. So far I have tried:

1) off and on the phone

2) off and on the iphone unlock;

3) erase existing print;

4) reboot (hold sleep key and home button till apple logo appear).

The trouble is when I try to add finger print or turn on iphone unlock, a message appear "Place Your Finger" which I did, but totally no response thereafter, the page continue to stay forever.....

There was twice after reboot, while I place my finger, the scan start and freeze thereafter, no more scanning like before.

Anything wrong with the home button ?

It's clear that this is an ios 7.1 issue.

It's also clear that apple will have a fix very soon.

I have the exact same problem. Touch ID was working fine on previous versions of ios.

Tries all of the things listed in this thread and no go.

The sensor is simply not recognising any touch at all.

As usual, we are being beta testers for apple.

It's fairly clear that they didn't so enough (any ? ) tearing before releasing this ios 7.1

Apple, if your listening, fix this ASAP.

Hi all, after trying all recoemmendation, before I send in to Singtel or waiting for the arrival of Apple fix, I rang up their support hotline. A nice lady (based in US) answered my call, after going through what I have done so far, she receommend to do a restore - i.e., setting the new phone like new, then restore back all my backup.

Did it (which took a while) and test - yes, I am able to add back the 3 finger prints. However, before I can add the 4th, the problem is back again......😠

Sigh.....

Mine is a GSM model. Just loaded 7.1. Touch ID works much better than it did on 7.0.x. It works every time on the first try, something that never happened before. As one of the changes listed was improved Touch ID it seems to have.

Before any troubeshooting do the following:

  • On your computer, in iTunes Preferences, Devices pane, check "Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically"
  • On your phone, go to Settings/iCloud - Storage & Backup, and do an iCloud backup
  • On your computer, connect the phone, click on its name, and click "Backup"

If you are having touch ID problems try Restoring the phone using iTunes and set up as a new phone. DO NOT SYNC. Configure and test Touch ID. If it still isn't working you most likely have a hardware problem. Take it to an Apple store and they will replace it. If it works after Restore as New then connect to iTunes and restore the backup. If the problem comes back you have corrupt data in your backup. Restore as New again.
