GPS always on after iOS 7.1 update

I updated my iPhone 4S to iOS 7.1 today. Everything seems to be ok except my GPS is always on. The GPS arrow won't go away from the top right. I've closed all applications and restarted my phone but the arrow remains. Anyone else experiencing this or have a solution?

From what I have gathered it doesn't appear to be any one app in particular. I'm using a 5S, and the culprit for me was the Google search app. Under Privacy, Location Services; any app that is currently using or recently used the GPS will show the arrow icon in Purple. This was how I identified the offending app in my case. I tried an experiment. I disabled the app's GPS access in location services and the arrow in the notification bar disapeared. I enabled it again and the arrow reapeared. Interestingly I hadn't opened the Google app all day. Opening and then closing the app didn't help either. However based on the experience of a previous poster, I uninstalled the app, then reinstalled it. The arrow did not reappear. When I opened the App, did a search that required location the Arrow in the notification bar appeared. Upon exiting, it disapeared as it did prior to the update. Seems that the update upset something with certain apps and their locaiton services. Uninstalling and reinstalling the offending app worked for me.

Hope this helps.

So it appears that apple changed the way location services behaves from ios 7 and ios 7.1 by request from developers:

One step backward for apple like many other features in ios 7.

We should complain to apple to reinstate the way the user had control over location services in ios 7.0. If I force quit an app, it is because I want to shut down the app and all it's processes. It doesn't make sense to keep the location services access of the app alive.

Bad apple.

I have the same EXACT issue!!! I'm sooooo glad somebody else does!!! I'm pretty sure that it's the "Google" App. I just turned location services OFF for ONLY the GOOGLE app and the arrow FINALLY went away!!!

But what kind of s&%t is that??? It worked fine on 7.0.6!!!!

I don't even use the GOOGLE app!!!! The only reason I downloaded it is because I had hoped that it would take away the pop-up add for it in Safari!!!! But it did not!!!!!

There are sooooo many things I wish Apple would fix with iOS 7, but so far the ONLY thing they fixed was "Calendar". So THANKFUL that I can now my daily events while also seeing the entire month!!!!!

I'm gonna go back thru all these replies and see if somebody found a fix for this Location Services crap, otherwise I'm deleting the GOOGLE app. :-(

>I was investigating the last couple of days and found that apps like Foursquare were intended to act like this on iOS 7, even if the user force closing the app if the app use location awareness then location services for that app will remain on.

I think any app that keeps the GPS on 100% of the time is acting up. Find My Friends is always updating my position but it doesn't keep the GPS on 100%. Reminders using Geo Fencing and it isn't keeping the GPS on 100% of the time, etc.

The location should be checked intermittantly, not constantly. My guess (just a guess) is that due to the bug that is now fixed app devs were trying to get around it be constantly re-enabling the GPS (or trying to). So, you probably need to report the issue to the app devs to fix their app now that the iOS bug is fixed.

It would be nice to get a list of apps that keep the GPS on 100% of the time so people are aware and can report the apps.

Google Search certainly is one.

I will add IFTTT app to the list.

I have removed both from my phone. I sometimes used the Google Search, but not often. when they report it fixed I will re-install it.

IFTTT I only had on my phone to auto sync my new pics to Facebook and flicker, but now both of those apps do it automatically anyway, so I don't need IFTTT on my phone any more.
