Hello everyone,

My 4S is also affected by the gray Wifi button, Bluetooth works perfectly. I tried everything but without success. I dare not use hair dryer for fear of damaging my iPhone. And of course my 4s is aged over 2 years.

I find it unusual that Apple does not take measures concerning the situation that shows where a manufacturing defect revealed by the latest updates from the IOS 6 and 7 ...

I am lost for words ... Used the hair dryer , waited for temperature warning message to pop onto the screen , heating by the the headset jack socket .. Turned phone off .

Placed it into a freezer bag , popped it freezer for 15 minutes , took it out and powered phone back up , and guess what , Wi Fi turned and my BT hub was showing on networks available !

Brilliant .

So up yours Apple and shove the £ 200 I was going to pay you to replace the so called "'hardware / Firmware fault !

Thanks for the post

my phone started messing up after 7.1.1 update. it started when i activated personal hotspot. it worked great. then i turned off hot spot and then noticed my wifi wasnt on. i went to setings and it eas grayed out. so i used the slide up menu and my wifi worked. i restarted my phone and the personal hotspot came on and i couldnt turn it off. it was working for an internet connection so i used it. i restarted my phone agin with the same problem! i the did a hard reset holding the home and lock butten. after that my wifi was comlpetly out of order. i restored the phone and it goten worse. now i cant restore my phone from icloud! my wifi dont work! also my phone is laging with upto a 8 sec delay in some menus. what happend with this update????? id been threw 15 iphone 4s devices because of update problems and random in wornty isues. i going to $hit a brick if this phone is destined for the trash like my last one. it had a software problem and was in wornty and apple wouldnt cover it! they never looked at it and the claimed there was unauthrised modifications to that device. iv loved all my apple products but the 4s had been a nightmaire. i had one burst into flames and apple took it and gave me a replacement. not i waiting to see what they will do about my current phone. this one worked the best out of all the phones i had in the last 2 years now its junk do to a bad update!

Ummm.. IOS 8 likely means the 4s goes the way of the 3g, 4 and the 5...... If you think IOS 8 will run good on this phone, I have a bridge to sell you....

Just so you all know, the hair dryer trick worked for me. The wifi stayed for only 3 months. It died, and it won't come back no matter what I do. I have since gone to android and samsung.

The hair drier / freezer procedure works. I've just completed it on a 4s whose wifi was disabled by the upgrade from 7.0 to 7.1.1. I heated the earpiece panel above the screen for 5 min until the phone gave me a scary "overheat" message. (For peace of mind keep the display turned off while you do this as it looks like the LCD is going black if the screen is active). Once the message appeared I powered down the phone using a cloth as the button was hot enough to burn me. I popped the phone in a ziplock bag, squeezed out as much air as possible, zipped the bag closed an popped it in the freezer for 15 mins. When I took it out I allowed it to come up to room temperature in the bag to prevent condensation. When I powered it up the network slider was a nice green instead of grey. I connected to my wifi network and by golly it had worked. No iPhone was injured in the execution of this procedure
