mine is also still not working after trying all the tricks. Tried ringing apple support and all they could offer was to pay £169 to have it replaced. I think its totally unacceptable as the iphone 4s i currently have is already a replacement phone that i have not updated at all as the guy in the shop updated to the latest software before it was given to me. The wifi stopped working a couple of weeks after i got it and they still want me to pay for a new one.

iPhone 4S 16 GB, always perfectly working, iOS regularly updated.

I had my first greyed outWiFi yesterday.

I tried with resetting network settings, resetting iPhone, restoring iPhone, resetting to factory settings, restoring after resetting: nope.

Brought it to an Apple Store, they told me it is a HW issue and I'd better check my warranty & replace, my warranty expired 2 months ago.

I tried the hairdryer+refrigerator fix: WiFi is up and running again!

It may be a HW+SW issue: WiFi chip gets too hot (architectural mistake?) and iOS shuts it down, but never turns it on again unless you force some sort of thermal shock that causes iOS to read the temperature again.

Or else, not for the fainthearted:

Hey, just got this problem today. It wasn't right after the update to 7.1.2 but shortly after it. I just restored to default settings and Wi-Fi worked. It found my home network, and I was able to correct. I then restored from my back up, and no luck. Greyed out again.

What a piece of crap. And, of course, Apple is saying that you need to buy a new phone. I will. An Android phone.

I know that I'm replying to myself.

You can add me to the list of folks who, with not much to lose, decided to try the hair dryer to freezer trick. The former engineer and believer in science and logic in me wanted nothing to do with this witch doctor hudu, but I decided I want a phone with Wi-Fi. With this I'd either fix it, or I'm getting a new phone. Therefore, if I break it, so be it.

I couldn't get the **** thing hot enough to display the warning message (I did see this a couple of months and at least one software rev ago when in Vegas). The thing was hot to the touch, so I gave up on that. I put the phone in my freezer for about 15 minutes. Took it out did a reset (via the home key and sleep button) and voila the WiFi is enabled again. As far as I can tell, it's working great.

My son figured this out. My wife's 4s iPhone lost wifi after update iOS 7.1, nothing worked so we were lucky enough to get another 4s phone from her sister inlaw which still had iOS 6.0 and good wifi. We moved the sims card from the non working wifi phone to the loaner phone and all was good. So the phone with iOS 7.1 on it and no wifi and no sims card sat until my son decided to try and install the new iOS update just out. I think it's 7.1.1. Anyway when he tried this the phone responded with something to the effect that an internet connection was needed and presented an option to search for available wifi networks which he selected. The wifi turned on, it found all the signals in our house and area and we connected to wifi and it is still working. So, I suggest you try this first, turn off your cellular in settings and try to update iOS or any app and see if you get the same message to search for wifi. If not, remove your Sims card and then try. A couple of caveats, we never put the sims card back in the phone and we actually did not run the update to iOS 7.1.1 so I can't say for certain that when you install your Sims card that the wifi will not go back out. I hope this works for you, good luck.

I have this issue too - it started over 1 month ago but completely by accident, my phone battery drained completely and stayed drained for 12 hours. Once I got back to a charger, I charged my phone and to my surprise, the wifi was working and available. The WIFI stayed available for almost 1 month, and then became unavailable and greyed out again. I proceeded to let the battery drain and plug it back in after 12 hours... the WIFI became available again.

In my opinion, if it was a hardware issue, the wifi should stay greyed out and un-available after a bettery drain. The phone I have is an iPhone 4s, only 1 year 3 months old and I did not start having issues with it until an iOS update - I believe it was to iOS 7.

I have reset All Settings; I have reset Network Settings; I have turned it off using the 2 button method; nothing has worked. As I said, at the Apple Store they told me the "WiFi was broken, the part that wraps around the outside of the phone, not the inside part". I don't buy any of it.

I am suspect of CarPlay, which is new, and is supposed to work in conjunction with new vehicles; it appeared after the last update and since Bluetooth is affected as well it just seems too convenient.

I am also suspect as right after I lost WiFi my phone recorded several programming errors in the log at Settings - General - About - Diagnostics & Usage - Diagnostics & Usage Data that all pointed to programming issues. Unfortunately all of the error messages are now gone from my phone and I didn't get a chance to save them...Mad at myself about that!!

Good luck keeping the frustration level down, mine is through the roof!

I've updated two iPhones (4S and 5) and an iPad to IOS 7. All three had WiFi connection issues after the update. My ASUS Nexus 7 and an old netbook has no issues. So it's not the router. Unfortunately, Apple indirectly made me buy a new router. My old "G" router served me well, but I suspect Apple wanted its devices to favor the "N" or even "AC" routers in the uncluttered 5GHz frequency. I was standing next to my old "G" router and all of my IOS devices failed to see the router. I would intermittently get WiFi sometimes. I did all the tricks (toggle wifi on/off, toggle Airplane mode, resetting the network settings, restoring the device).

I got me a new ASUS N900 router and no more connection issues. **** Apple!!!
