Iphone 5s battery drains fast after ios 7.1 update.

Am I the only one who seems to be experiencing this? My iphone 5S battery seem to drain much faster than usual, and charge longer. I heard that the new update is supposed to increase battery life, and read comparison threads regarding other iphones that are capable of a much better battery life than mine.

I've had my phone for 3 months, never have dropped it once or anything of the sort, if that matters. My battery drains to 50% within an hour or so after intense use on the lowest level of brightness, and I seem to lose about 5-7 percents when on standby for 5 hours or so. Is this normal? Is it perhaps due to the fact that I am mostly using 3g, and applications that require more processing such as tumblr (graphics and gifs) as well safari? I'm just worried that my battery may be draining to quick, despite the update which's supposed to make it much better according to many people.

Thanks.

I have that problem plus right after the update my iPhone 5s kept freezing and appearing back at the home page. And I keep having timing out internet connections, along with text messages undeliverable. When inputing text the keyboard will drop down and pop back up after the entire screen glitches. For the price I paid I expect better. Remember 20 years ago? When people didn't put things out on the market until they were perfected? Try that, it's better for business.

Same issue. Iphone 5 - 16GB. Battery draining much quicker than 7.0.6. Have done a reset and a restore and issue remains. Have also noted that the "little spinning wheel" in the top status bar goes continuously in email. Lastly, phone getting VERY hot. I've done all of the recommended battery saving tips, too. Sure wish I could revert until Apple fixes this

PLEASE HELP APPLE !!!

This battery drain is real, very real. I've had my 5s for a while at the then current iOS. Day is take it off charger around 06:00 AM at 100% and by 10:00 it might be 99 or 98%. By the end of the day, with my normal use it might be 85-88% never ever below 80%. After upgrading to 7.1, I cam home yesterday to a phone at 65% and dropping like a rock.

  1. I've done the hard reset - no change.
  2. I did a full restore last night - no change.. The phone has been unplugged less than 1 hour and it's already dropped 3%.
  3. I've not altered any of my settings from whince they were.
  4. I have noticed that every time I turn on the phone, the display is in some wild bright mode, so I reset as I normally keep the display at maybe 50% all the time. I manually turned "Auto brightness" off (never had to do so before) so I do not know why the phone keeps wanting to reset itself to uber bright.

Is there anyway sane way to back off this 7.1 update? I've never had a major problem like this before, but then I usually waited a few weeks for the kinks to get worked out too. Shame on me for jumping too soon.

Apple Tech.. are you listening?

Cheers.

Here is an update -

Go to cellular in settings and turn OFF cellular data.

This has restored my stand-by drain to around 1% per hour. With Cellular data - ON, it is around 8% per hour.

Also, looks like the culprit is not a 3rd party App but Apple's system services - especially DNS services, itunes accounts & Push notifications. (This is different from email push which is already turned off in my Phone.)

Hi Apple,

I like to inform you that there is an issue with update iOS 7.1 , Could you please give us some freedom here. We cannot downgrade our own devices just because you want to show high count of usage of your latest iOS. We are stuck here with your soo awaited update. Now I cannot take calls "signal bar goes on searching mode" neither my battery lasts not more than 6 hours. I am sitting with this charging cable and factory restoring again and again.

Why don't you allow us to downgrade to any of stable version we want like iOS 5.1.1, iOS 6.1.3, or any other which is stable and compatible. If you care about jailbreak then patch these iOS with your latest security and allow us to run our own bought devices on your iOS.

Where is the value, Big amount was not for hardware it was for iOS, If iOS is not good then No Value.

Mohd Nouman

Thanks. Will try that option BUT I never had to turn off my cellular data feeds before 7.1.. and it is certainly not acceptable to turn off cellular feeds when it is my main data source.

Folks, Apple's iOS 7.1, at least on the 5s, has a introduced some level of major battery drain issue.. that is unless it fixed some reporting issue in the iOS 7.01 firmware ...and is now displaying the real status.. Hmmm, which will it be?

We need to be able to backout or revert to at least the prior firmware levels (for stuff like this) in a simple, efficient way and sadly, that's not possible. So we wait... Cheers.

I'm suffering the "hot iPhone" issue too and even more, I've waken up today receiving a e-mail from my data provider telling me that I've reached the 80% of my cell data usage (1200MB) where it's rearly imposible with my daily use.

I'm supposing that something happens when the phone is using cell data, something like sendling or receiven data without control, because this hasn't got another explanation.

Need an update ASAP and don't tell me to restore again (2309484589 time) or things like that because it isn't what's happening.

One of the things that I have heard and have done with my iPhone (I have the 5s) is that when I do not need the Wifi or the Bluetooth I turn it off. When it comes with apps, when I finish using them I close them becuase they are still using Cellular Data. So you have to close them. Another is to turn off your phone and restart it from time to time. Another is to clear your Data usage and clear your History. I have done it with my iPhone 5s and has worked and my battery last more. I hope this work!!
