Iphone 5s battery drains fast after ios 7.1 update.

Am I the only one who seems to be experiencing this? My iphone 5S battery seem to drain much faster than usual, and charge longer. I heard that the new update is supposed to increase battery life, and read comparison threads regarding other iphones that are capable of a much better battery life than mine.

I've had my phone for 3 months, never have dropped it once or anything of the sort, if that matters. My battery drains to 50% within an hour or so after intense use on the lowest level of brightness, and I seem to lose about 5-7 percents when on standby for 5 hours or so. Is this normal? Is it perhaps due to the fact that I am mostly using 3g, and applications that require more processing such as tumblr (graphics and gifs) as well safari? I'm just worried that my battery may be draining to quick, despite the update which's supposed to make it much better according to many people.

Thanks.

I have the same problem. I too think Location Services and LTE were a big contributor to the battery drain. I found this quite helpful (http://www.gottabemobile.com/2014/03/12/how-to-get-better-ios-7-1-battery-life/)

I did a factory restore on my phone last night and it seems to be better today, it is still draining battery power more than before the 7.1 update but it's not as bad as yesterday. This weekend I will add back my Apps, it is a long and tedious process.

I had a battery issue too after updating my 5s. Tried a hard restart after deleting all apps from the shelf. Didn't help.

What DID work though was to recondition my battery by letting it run itself completely out until it shut itself off. Then I plugged it in and let it charge all he way up to 100% again.

Since I've done this my phone is functioning closer to what it used to be.

A side note: many things get switched on with the update. Bluetooth is the most obvious. Make sure you turn that off. Also, in Settings-General- Background Refresh turn ALL of them off (unless you have some specific need for something).

Hope this helps...

I already got poor battery life anytime using cellular data on ios7 with iphone 5s; despite all the various tweaks that dumb down a smartphone (location, background refresh, push, ...)

Typically 15% + per hour.

Now I have seen it drop 20% + / hour on wifi, just doing some browsing and a facetime chat.

I am forced to plug the phone in while on the road, something we used to have to do when we had limited to no signal with our previous carrier.

I think that is a good point, as the problem does not hit everyone.

As I've said, I did a hard reset and that fixed it for me, but it hasn't worked for others. Some people are saying turn of Bluetooth, background apps refresh etc., etc. but I have all these things on, plus I have notifications on for 29 apps and I do not have the problem.

Same issue. Iphone 5 - 16GB. Battery draining much quicker than 7.0.6. Have done a reset and a restore and issue remains. Have also noted that the "little spinning wheel" in the top status bar goes continuously in email. Lastly, phone getting VERY hot. I've done all of the recommended battery saving tips, too. Sure wish I could revert until Apple fixes this. 😠

Hi Apple,

I tried to solve this problem with many suggestion found on many forums including this one:

I tried few basic like :

1. hard restting

2. Reset all settings or network settings

3. Erase all content and settings

few major time takers:

1. Restore from iTunes

2. Restore from dfu Mode

3. Erase all content and restore old icloud backup

4. Erase all content and restore my other iPhone iCloud backup

But after all these attempts I have waisted my whole working day in office and what I got same warm iPhone with signal restart loop, This is very annoying when I charge my Phone to 100%, soon after 30 minutes I drops to 87% and device is so warm like it will blow.

Problem is with there updates ios 7.1 I have never seen so many updates with any software version in time spam of ios looks like iOS 7 is becoming more unstable than any other iOS .

I request to Apple or Tim Cook, If things are not working well with any iOS updates, then please allow a4 or a5 devices to run iOS 5or6 which is the most stable version I have ever seen in any mobile platform. I bought this iPhone 5 last year with all my savings of cost around 750$ in India and last month in Feburary I lost my warranty. Now with iOS 7.1 my phone signal gettig restart and battery draining under 6 hours.

Please give me any suggestion what I do with this Because I have paid a big amount of money on this and I cannot see this thing die just because of your faulty iOS updates

Mohd Nouman

To me,the problem existed since when I bought my iphone 5s just last month, with built-in ios 7.0.4.Since then, my phone would drop like,10% on 3G or 5% on wifi every 10 minutes.I hoped it'd get improved a little in 7.1 but,now on 7.1 it's the same. So,I came to think this much battery drain is just normal. But,according to some people in this discussion, they used to get much longer battery life than me before upgrading to 7.1.So,my battery drain isn't just normal?

(Just when I am writing this post,my battery percentage dropped like 3 or 4%.is that normal of an iphone 5s?)
