Battery drains after installing iOS 7.1 on my iPhone 5

Dear All

Can you please help me out, my iPhone 5 battery drains in 2-3 hours after installing iOS 7.1. I am not rigorous user and also turned off motion option. Since installing 1 day ago I atleast have charge for 10-12 times without so much use.

With iOS 7.0.x, my iPhone just require 1 time charging in whole day with same apps.

Your help will be highly appreciated.

Regards,

ZRC.

I'm having the same issue here with an iPhone 5. With iOS 7.0.6 battery was good. I used to charge the iPhone every one and a half day with moderate use.

Now after the 7.1 update battery drain is crazy. I can see the battery meter go down in minutes. With a full charge in the morning I'm at 30-20% at lunch time. Today I was browning a web and it jumped from 46% to 25% in a few seconds.

Now I have to bring my charger all the time with me. This is a BIG problem.

9to5 Mac has a poll asking if people are being effected by the battery drain problem. So far 36% answered YES.

Try this:

Turn off both location services and background app refresh, let the battery completely discharge. Recharge the battery completely, then turn both location services and background app refresh back on. This made the location services icon vanish and greatly improved the battery life.

On the first day I saw a 50% drop in charge in 3 hours, now in 3.5 hours, it only dropped 10%.

Just my thoughts on this, as I've already stated I've noticed battery trouble pretty much since I updated to 7.1

I've never had any kind of batt probs on my 4s and even 7.0.6 was same as usual about 1.5 days off a batt.

7.1 is Reeeaaaallly bad though, even as I'm typing this it's dropped by about 8%

I've tried everything to fix it, resets, fully charging n draining, a complete wipe and restore from iTunes, and turning every special feature off and it's still having trouble.

It's definitely a problem with 7.1 that thankfully is being recognised more and more so I hope they sort it out soon!

I went through the super fast battery drain after updating to 7.1. now, a couple days later after restarting (i have not restored yet) and turning off background app refresh my battery life has leveled out to where it was pre 7.1 which was not very good anyway.

it all seemed to start with ios 7.0.4 or 7.0.6. but my phone hasn't crashed at 30% yet sonce 7.1.

I just have to keep a charger with me at all times now, which really ***** (*is bad*, lol they censored me!). i hope apple comes out with a quick update and finally fixes this. or at least tells us that we all have to get new batteries, i would hate to buy and install one and then it not help any. frustrating.

For me the problems started, very noticeably after 7.0.6, only to be made significantly worse by 7.1. After some trial and error, now the charge has gone from dropping 50% in 3 hours with very light use to dropping 65% in 12 hours of normal use. This is what worked for me:

Turn off both location services and background app refresh, let the battery discharge until the phone turns off. Recharge the battery completely, then turn both location services and background app refresh back on. This made the location services icon vanish and greatly improved the battery life.

If anyone tries this, please post here if it worked or not.

alright, update.

ios 7.1 did NOT fix my random shut down problem. I recreated it today. here's what i know for certain to get it to happen.

not plugged in and not on a wifi connection. on LTE and headphone jack in and listening to music. screen is off on iphone 5. when someone calls i unplug the headphone jack and answer the phone.

if my phone is 28% or below and someone calls me with the above mentioned, my phone will pick up the call for approximately 5 seconds and then shut off, it may be a 4g thing i don't know.

what is worse about 7.1 is that when it used to do it i could plug in my power cable and then i could reboot it.

now i can't. it acts like a completely dead battery and i have to wait 15 minutes until it lets me reboot it. and then it shows 28% again.

also while i was messing with it i watched it go from 28% to 20% instantly and give me the low battery warning.

i will be going to the apple store to give them **** and hopefully get a battery replacement to see if that fixes it. I know this is a first world problem, but i paid good money ($400) for my phone and i have a two year contract on top of that. for that kind of money this should have a quicker fix. I rely on my phone, and it's not good when i client calls me, the phone dies and I can't call them back for 15 minutes!!

not to mention apple users buy their phones so that they can have the "best", that statement is starting to become a joke!

FYI battery life in general is still crappy!

Well people, I officially give up on all advice, trick, and sugguestion that has come my way over this past week. Don't get me wrong, I truely thank each and every one who have shared thier experiences, frustrations, and what has worked for them.

I has caused me to completely give up on this P.O.S. phone is the tech's at the Apple store. I have had 2 private sessions with a tech 'expert' as well as a "walk-in" customer. The result from each seperate visit has not just been disappointing, but sometimes infuriating. Every single time I left the store, my phone not only did the battery issue continue but other problems now exist. Today's new problem - I no longer have access to my photos, nor am I able to take a photo.

Basically, I bought an expensive phone that advertises, and boasts, how it is more than just a phone. I was sold a product that was suppossed to have the ability to send and recieve emials, rely on a personal working calendar, be able to take, share and download photos, text, actually have a phone conversation without my phone cutting off 90 seconds into the phone call! .....etc...

Even if my fancy phone could retain a battery life longer than 30 minutes at a time, I still can't use any of the basic essentials of why I bought the iPhone to begin with. I would have saved a whole lot of time and money, AND be more productive right now if I just bought a phone that it's only function was to make phone calls.

So, in my opinion, if you have tried to fix your phone over this past week, give up because you have a reserved seat in the "Apple screwed me" section. You just have not realized it yet.

I have tried 9to5 mac procedure by switching off Refresh Background app & location service, drained complete battery and recharged to 100%. After that when I switched on above both options, it is battery drained faster.

Finally I again switched off both options. And since yesterday, battery is back to normal. For time being, I will keep them off to avoid battery drain within few hours.

I'm glad to see someone finally tried that! 🙂 I posted that three times (almost exact copies of what I posted here) and it seemed that people were more interested in complaining than perusing the comments for possible solutions.

Too bad it didn't work for you. In my experience I went from a 50% drain in 3 hours to a 47% drain in 24 hours.

Mark

Thanks for sharing. I dont know what to do to fix that problem. I also thought about restoring my iphone but did not attempt after hearing some bad experiences from different users.

You are right, we post for users to make things better for all of us. Still disapppointed with Apple regarding this update. Appreciate for your kind suggestion.
