Why is there a Spinning Wheel Most of the Time on my Home Screen After the 7.1 Update?

That spinning wheel is next to the network icon WiFi so it stands to reason that it's a network issue.

So the fix is obvious- RESET Network Connections.

This worked for me.

Only problem is that all prior WiFi connections will be lost and must be re-connected.

Under settings. Switch off auto update apps. Then reboot phone by holding down the home button and on/off button simultaneously until the 'apple' appears. When the phone has fired back up the spinning wheel ... wheel be gone!

Make sure you delete your old text messages. An Apple tech finally revealed that to me years ago on my iPhone 4 and when I deleted my hundred or so old text messages, that suddenly brought my battery back to life. Only keep essential ones that you haven't responded or taken action on. Anything you need to archive, you can copy and paste into a Note which won't eat up battery.

noticed the same thing since the update to ios 7.1. for me it happens right after updating my apps (manually). it dissappears when turning on 'airplane mode', but comes back immediatly after turning that off again.

Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss)

I had the same problem as well after upgrade. After i restart, everything back to normal. Anyway, i did the hard rest using the Home and Power button just five minute ago, Hopefully it fix the problem.

Had the spinning wheel appear on my home screen. Tried killing apps one by one to see if that would tell me which one it was. Still spinning after killing all apps. Regular (without home button) power off/on fixed it (for now?).

I just noticed this issue. It's making me crazy. A hard reset makes it go away temporarily but then it just comes back. Even if I shut wifi off, it still happens on LTE. Now, if this was just a visual glitch then I wouldn't care so much, but whatever is happening is sucking down my battery. My phone was at 100% and after 2 hours of no use it was at 80%. The other strange thing is as soon as I open any app including safari, the spinning wheel stops. When I go back to the home screen it comes back. I have app refresh off and have email deactivated. I really am not sure what's going on.

Drains battery like ****! Reseting device was temporary solution for me. Try to reset network settings, this may help. Worked for me...till now at least.

Many thanks, worked and cleared the issue. No longer annoying spinning on the edges of my vision.

Yes resetting worked for me too. I still can't believe that glitch was costing me 20% of battery per hour.
