Sound problem with iPad Air on iOS 7.1

Recently I just got the iOS 7.1 update on my brand new iPad Air. I'm really glad they fixed a ton of problems in this update but it also created some new bugs. Some of the ones I've experienced so far all seems to be related to sound. Below is a list of sound problems I found and I hope someone can suggest a workaround or a temporary remedy to them:

1. Keypad sound is lagged when entering passcode to unlock the device. When I wake the iPad up from sleep and enter the passcode, I notice the first press does not make a sound but the other three presses that comes afterwards do.

2. Keyboard click sounds is inconsistent. When I use the magnify select feature and try to add or delete a letter when writing something the first keyboard click doesn't come up.

3. The sound when initiating Siri is bugged sometimes. When opening Siri sometimes only one beep is heard and not the usual two beeps.

4. Volume for videos app sounds muffled. This is the biggest problem I have right now. The volume level for other apps are fine, like Music and Safari, I can listen to songs and watch YouTube vids and hear everything loud and clear when the volume is turned to one third of the max volume. But in videos I have to turn it up to three fourths of the max volume just to hear them talk.

Am I the only one who ran into these annoyances? Can someone offer a solution to fix them?

Sounds like the same problem we are having with our 4 year old daughters 1 week old iPod touch 5th generation. Anything playing through the videos app has really low volume. Has to be up all the way to hear it at all. And yes we have tried all the common sense steps such as checking the volume limit, hard reset etc.. Just updated to 7.1.1 and issue remains.

I still have ios 7.1, too scared of upgrading to 7.1.1 that it may break my ipad with additional bugs. I went to apple store to restore my ipad air to factory condition, that means ios 7.1 since they don't down grade. At home, i noticed the sound level problem is still there. I tried using my ear buds and found out that it doesn't have the sound problem through the ipad air speakers which is noticeable at 50% volume setting (comparing tv show with music video using the videos app that came with ios 7.1.

I also tried the common sense things like the steps mentioned above.

IPOD TOUCH LOW SOUND FOR VIDEOS SOLVED

DO NOT UPGRADE TO IOS 7.1.1

Here's the story, I have a ipod touch 5 gen for about three years. All of a sudden I noticed the sound was very low on just videos only. Called Apple and they tried to help me by resetting the device which did NOT WORK. I then purshased a brand new device open it and put videos on it and it worked perfect. Then I did the upgrade to 7.1.1 and that was it the SOUND WENT LOW AGAIN. I just spoke to an Apple senior teh that told me to send it in for service. I advised him that it is a ios issue not a hardware issue. I explaind to him that other people are having the same problem. He related that he never heard of this problem. I then asked him if he could help me with this problem and he says NO. I explained to him I will fix my own problem by returning it and getting another one from the store. Just spoke to another supervisor that was more understanding and is going to make a service ticket to applae teh to resolve the issue.

Hi Lexdexia,

I have exactly the same problem here with my iPad Air. Missing first click when entering passcode and the sound when initiating Siri is defect every time i wait for 30-40 sec to initiating Siri again. My iPad 2 doesn't have this problem.

I got a new iPad Air from the Apple Store. But the error is still there. So i can assume it concerns a firmware problem.

I wrote a bug report to apple.

But i think the problem is to small that apple will fix it fast. Perhaps it is better, if more people with this problem send a bug report at Apple.

It is indeed a small problem but it's the details that matter. It's the reason why I bought an iPad in the first place, because they care about the details. However, these minor flaws in iOS 7 annoys me because I expect nothing but excellent craftsmanship from Apple. I have my fingers crossed hoping they fix this in the next update.

Had similar problem after updated iOS 7.1.1 on iPad 2.

Resetting my iPad 2 as suggested by some user.

Initial test by listening music seem working fine.

No Sound after watching video on YouTube app.

After second attempt of resetting my device, decided to remove some app(YouTube , Beats music)

Seem to get back in place (my iPad working now).

Now temporary watching video by Safari.

I had my iPad Air factory restored at Apple Store to iOS 7.1, which means no third party apps yet, downloaded one TV show video and one music video purchased from my iTune Store, and compared the two videos when i got home(too noisy at the apple store). At 50% volume setting there is a significant sound difference between the two videos and I'm using the Videos App which comes with iOS 7.1.

Here is another way i tried: A video taken with my iPhone 4s camera at a party, connected my iphone 4s to my PC laptop and showed a drive letter for the iphone camera, using file explorer i copied the video MOV file to a folder, use iTunes for windows xp, put the one video to link in two locations in iTune, one in Photos (it is possible to include videos in Photo Album), and one in Home Videos, connect my iPad Air and sync. Now I compared the one video played at the Photo Album and the one in the Videos App. They should be the same loudness at 50% volume setting, but it is not.

Same problem with iOS 7.1.1. Apple makes a finely crafted iphone and ipad, i hope no politics is involved in software.

Guys... you won't believe me. but I have experienced what I'm about to tell you now. I faced the same issue like you guys. I updated my iphone 4s into iOS 7.1.1 two days ago. But after the update my speaker didn't work for any notification sounds and etc. except my ringtone. So I searched the whole web for a solution and I just restored my phone almost 20 times. You may imagine how frustrated I was. But I found a tutorial. It said all we gotta do is to clean the 30 pin sync (charging) port. So I did. That was the last thing I could do. Here's how it said me to clean the port. Get a brush with soft synthetic fibre hairs. Dip the hairs in rubbing alcohol a little. Then clean the charging port's inside with it. I just did it.. aaaaaaaannd here it is. My iPhone's sounds are back again! At first i thought the tutorial's gonna fool me, but somehow i did it and it worked. But still I get my phone back in the same situation, then I do the same what I did before. Cleaning the charging port. You also try it. But remember, don't ever use a large amount of alcohol to clean the port. I hold no responsibility for the damages that would occur in the attempt to do this procedure by your fault. I just said what I just experienced.🙂😎

Hello. I wonder if you can help. Had an unfortunate spill of Apple Cider Vinegar on my Ipad Air (!!!) and now sound is stuck on Headphones. I wiped inside the headphone connector with rolled up tissue and have put the headphones in and out several times. Also have powered down a few times. Still no sound :-(. Any thoughts as tons should I try next please...? Thanks.

The posted "Official" fix does not work after switching apps. If you've lost sound in app and games but not in music or headphones, then try this. Close all current apps, go to settings, control center and turn off "Access Within Apps". Then do a soft reset with the home and sleep button. Your audio/external speakers will now work in apps. Apple broke the audio controller (pause/play/forward/back/volume) in the Control Center with their 7.1.1 update.

Tried the above procedure, did not fix it. I'm just wondering why not many people reporting this problem of low sound in Videos App. I proved to myself that not only the demo ipad air at Apple Store but other third party store are showing this problem too. Like i said comparing same recorded video at two different places (photo album to videos app, or music videos to tv shows).
