When will the iPod Touch 6th generation be released?

When will the iPod Touch 6th generation be released? - So my birthday is coming up on April 27th, and I have an iPod Touch 4th generation that I want to sell to get a new iPod, so I can use iOS 7. I'm hearing that there should be a new iPod coming soon (the 6th generation), so I don't want to go buy the iPod 5 and then hear that the iPod 6 is out. I don't want to sell my iPod 4 until I know the release date of the iPod 6, because I want to know if I can buy it, when I can buy it, and if I'll be able to have it in time for my birthday. I'm not looking for an exact answer, I just want to know the month, or even a range of months that could be when it releases. I also hear that maybe they won't even make an iPod Touch 6th generation, so I would like info on that too.

Please help answer my question. Thanks!

! Between the "Best Buy Assumption" and Foxtrot2November you have to smile! (I give more credit to the "Best Buy Assumption", but still question it's validity) Knowing the time it takes to ramp up for any product line / assembly there is know way Foxtrot could know, if it where true; that "they" (Apple) is still working out the design then there will be no new iPod for at least another year. Somehow I'm dubious of the information supplied. But I don't work for Apple, and I suppect Foxtrot does not either. Cheers. 😎

If Apple is going to release any hardware this fall, rest assured that the production lines are already working to capacity non stop as we speak. By then they have to have the inventory ready at all the stores, and the old inventory should be almost gone. So watch out for sales and clearance sells. If u don't care for the latest and the greatest u will be able to get a good deal on whats available right now. And by the way no one other than Apple's top brass knows for a fact anything; Apple is extremely secretive about their moves. I know because my son-in-law works for an Apple store and he has nothing to share. He said they find out the day before a release is announced to the public because they have to be ready. We should be used to this by now, it's the same thing every year.

Hey Cesarfi, Your preaching to the choir. (and I think you missed my point, it was meant to be a little tongue in cheek). We (the general users) have no idea when or why Apple does what it does. You are correct about the production schedule and the fact that the last people to find out when a new product is to be released is the store employees, (that's secret keeping 101). I would hope these facts are "duh" moments for anyone with pulse! As for the Best Best Assumption, it does make sense but you really don't know, could be shipping issues, interruptions in production, clearing the way for the next model, issues with the Chinese market, etc. But your really don't have solid intel. What you do have is a gut feeling-- but the bottom line... you really only know as much as anyone else does. We just have to hurt up and wait and see what the fall has in-store. Cheers.

Maybe a little off-topic, but discussing a new touch, is there really even a place in Apple's product lineup for the touch anymore? It's an iPhone minus the phone, and when you factor in carrier subsidies the touch becomes more expensive than the iPhone. Maybe they get the storage up to 128GB, and they then just retire the classic? Or maybe rebrand it as the "iPad micro" or something?

That would be a reason to retire the classic, as its a old device with the old dock connector and the stainless steel back. Its also very thick and heavy and has no retina display (OK that's not necessary since the 7G iPod nano is also not having one).

No need to say that a 128GB flash drive is better than a 160 GB hard drive.

Well i don't know what Apple is going to add to the iPod touch 6G, since the 5G is like perfect.

The A6 chip, a GPS module and maybe a 8MP camera. That's all i can think of, i don't think they implent Touch ID to an iPod (yet).

Subsidized for not, you pay well over $649 for an iPhone, whether it's by purchasing it outright factory unlocked, or by paying off your plan over the course of two years. With the iPod touch, it's pay $229, and you're done. The iPod touch is for people who don't need (and don't want to pay for) Internet everywhere. Limited to Wi-Fi, they can still text via iMessage, and call using FaceTime Audio.

It's an iPhone minus the phone

That was actually one of its selling points when first released. In fact, that's how Steve Jobs marketed it.

c.ronaldo7, your repy did not provide any new information. This was posted previously in March:

Every iPod Touch model has been released in the fall so if you go by history you are looking at Fall 2014. But no one knows for sure.

in iPod history apple always released an iPod in the fall so its probably going to be in the months of September/October/November

Well, the decision factor of what to place inside the ipod touch is too risky if the revenue and sales don't match up with ipad mini and iphone 5s. Many users are being tempted too much by apples price drop of all apple devices. Because of the upcoming Announcement of new devices every september. This year, there were too many rumors about the new iphone 6, ipad mini 3, ipad air 2, and a possible ipod touch 6th gen. And there were images of the new model. If Apple A7 is too pricy for the ipod touch chipset. Then, the price of the ipod touch would also doubled from the original price of every new ipod touch. And there would be a 128gb model. Every user wanted to buy a cheap apple products. Most of them invest on ipod touch rather than anything else. But most users buy ipad mini wifi version but the price of the ipad mini is too high and too scary to carry outside if you only wanna do is watch movies.

But as the sales of ipod touch 5th gen is going way below than the iphone and ipad class. Ipod touch 6th gen would only be a dream.

Yes, as my speculation may prove to be wrong. it's up to the CEO of apple if he has a plan to create a new ipod touch model. Been stuck on the 4G for 4 years since it's release. And the only thing that was repaired was the replacement of the screen display. It has fallen into the water, drop it on the floor a lot of times. But it didn't even break.

My only problem is that most games and apps are now only optimize and works on a dual core processor and 512MB and higher capacity of ram. Cannot even play the latest games on the appstore. Which BTW most games run very slow on my IPT4.
